A poem about suicide prevention in teens. This is inspired by the song “How to Save a Life” by The Fray, and also known for its many times played in the medical drama, “Grey’s Anatomy”

How to Save a Life

A fever? A cold? Why, these cases never get old,

A code blue? Perhaps one or two??

A runny nose, a sore throat? We’re going to need a bigger boat,

Could it be appendicitis? Cardiac arrest? Let’s all hope for the best,

A peer alone? Make them feel at home,

Keep your friend away from that knife, You could save their life.

Saving a life doesn’t necessarily take place in hospitals or in emergency rooms, there has been an increased number of teen suicides/violent actions towards themselves, and/or peers. A simple act of kindness can go a long way, and possibly save a life one day.

“A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions, and the roots spring up and make new trees” -Amelia Earhart “My best friend saved my life. She’ll probably never know, but without her I would be dead” -Anonymous
