As I walked, my feet softly lifted and pressed against the cement planted upon the hill of which I live on.
As I ambled down the hill, sprinkling seeds along the small brick wall to my side, I watched as the birds slowly hopped from one tree to another, following me in every step.
I watched where I walked slowly, making sure not to step on any innocent creatures. I came to my stop. I looked above the wall, spotting bugs scattering from a certain spot.
I climbed atop the short wall and walked over to the spot. The spot where I placed the hurt bird a while ago. Something had broken it's neck, but did not kill it.
I knew it hadn't long to live, but I hoped it would survive, against all odds. I stared at the spot for a moment. There was nothing left. Nothing but a small, orange mushroom.
I sat on the wall and stared into the distance for a moment, thinking.
I started walking away, before I ran back and sprinkled bird seed atop the spot, and with a tear in my eye, I whispered "Rest in peace. I'll miss you.
" I wiped my tear and walked home, thinking of nothing but the poor bird and the pain it must've been through. As I walked to my building, I looked at it in disgust.
This was once they're planet. We have stolen what was never ours. We need to give back to them. I decided to dedicate the rest of my life helping them, in any way possible.
