Spoken word poetry by adelinefecker
I am a grown up because I know how to hold my head up high until my neck becomes a steel block.
I am a grown up because I know how to swallow tears and burn them deep down so no one sees.
I am a grown up because I never scream until I am sure I am alone.
I am a grown up because I never say please stop.
I do not expect you to take ‘please’ seriously
and I do not expect a single word to perform magic.
Truth is not delivered in a single word but in a mountain,
a tsunami of words I never got to say.
Truth is something that grows until it fills you too full and you have to bleed.
I am a grown up because I don’t bleed.
I let the roots grow through me.
Let the leaves push through my hair and stretch to the sunlight I could never reach.
I am a grown up because I shed pieces of myself no longer worth saving.
Memory is not a storage container with no bottom.
Memory is a tree.
Memory grows through my brain and then it sheds.
Memory has no time for you.
Memory has no time for me
