Yet again I found sleep impossible to come by. I could not face another night pounding my head into my pillow in frustration. "Time for a change," I thought and headed out into the night. The streets felt like my head at night. Everything should have been calm and peaceful, but it wasn't. Sirens wailed, drunk people screamed, cars rumbled, and lights flashed. No serenity here.

Insomniac

Yet again I found sleep impossible to come by. I could not face another night pounding my head into my pillow in frustration. "Time for a change," I thought and headed out into the night.

The streets felt like my head at night. Everything should have been calm and peaceful, but it wasn't. Sirens wailed, drunk people screamed, cars rumbled, and lights flashed. No serenity here.

I trudged on surly and shattered.

Coming up to a side road I heard the sound of a scuffle. "Oh, what now," I thought as against my better judgement I looked around the corner to see two men, holding a woman down.

"Like fuck you are!" I barked without thinking. One of the men rounded on me. "Fuck off you little bitch or its your turn next," he shouted at me.

"Oh, I am far too tired for your shit," I said as I began running straight at the cretin.

Before he had a chance to think (not saying much in his case) I had hit him once in the gonads, and twice in the head for good measure. He went down and stayed down.

His friend was even easier to dispatch. He was down on his knees over the woman, so I simply booted his head into the bin he was next to. He also did not get up.

After the police had come and taken my statement I returned home and collapsed into bed. I slept deeply and peacefully for the first time in weeks.
