This for a contest @silver_nebula is holding. I chose the prompt "Hirath" which means a homesickness for a home you can't return to or that wasn't really there.

This poem describes a person longing for their partner. To me, "home" mean more than just a place. A person can represent home, or the past can as well. The subject also suffers from Alzheimer's and one thing I've noticed is people revert back to the past where they feel either most at "home" or trauma in this case the first one. Anyways, enjoy this poem.

Shattered Mind

I felt the last of them

I felt the last of them Fleeing from my mind

I felt the last of them Fleeing from my mind Broken shards of memories

I felt the last of them Fleeing from my mind Broken shards of memories Shattering against the ground.

Yesteryears no longer here

Yesteryears no longer here Tomorrow brings only fear

Yesteryears no longer here Tomorrow brings only fear Without you here I wonder why I'm still alive.

I reach up towards the heavens

I reach up towards the heavens Knowing you are there too

Do you still reach for my hand?

Do you still reach for my hand? Do you still call for me?

For if you do Why can’t I remember you?

My heart yearning

My heart yearning For something

My heart yearning For something I can no longer recall.

Just out of my grasp

Just out of my grasp The warmth I yearn

Just out of my grasp The warmth I yearn A smile of hope

Just out of my grasp The warmth I yearn A smile of hope Hidden in the remains

Of my broken mind.

Alone

Alone...

Where did you go?

Lost... I'm lost...

Fear is swallowing me alive

My heart it hurts me so but I don't know why anymore.
