A Man’s Turn

History demands

A man

To get up and yell

And be swinging his hands

Making bruises

And cuts

Lesions

Burns

Telling the family whose bound to get scorned

History demands

A woman

To sit down and be quiet

Don’t break up this riot

You have no place

It’s all a disgrace

‘Maybe you deserved it’

‘Maybe you should just leave’

Demanding she follow her husband’s lead

The present demands

That men stand up

And be strong

But to cry when their sad

And don’t yell up at dad

And be sure to be nice to women

Don’t hit

Don’t yell

Don’t go out and tell

‘She’s just a lady’

‘Those scratches aren’t serious’

Those bruises on your face

Make you look

Del

Ir

Ious

The present demands women

To get up

Neuter those pigs

Take out the gap

With your own pints of blood

Don’t let them have discomfort

They don’t have the right

If our feelings are hurt

So dismiss them

Ignore them

Only trust the allies

For who else says that we’re good guys?
