It was June of 2014. There was a party going on down the street from a newly renovated house. 5 teenagers, Blake, Todd, Jessica, Amber and Ryder, had heard tale of the Crooked Man.
Supposedly, if you tied a noose in the bathroom of the house, and looked through it at the mirror, he would come for you.
Todd, a geek amidst the popular kids, protested when Blake, the star football player, dared the group to enter the house. But, having a crush on Jessica, agreed when she wanted to go.
The five of them headed out, rope in hand, down the street.
Laughing as they tied the noose, the ground shook a little. This was normal as there had been reports of earthquakes in the area. Peering through the rope, Ryder noticed something was off.
The walls behind them seemed to be rotting. That was when a tremor knocked them all to their feet.
All except for Ryder, who was knocked forward. His head was caught in the noose, which tightened as the house shook. By the time his friends were up and attempting to free him it was too late.
Terrified, the four teens ran out to the hall, only to discover the house was no longer the same. It was the Crooked Mans house. The furniture and walls were all slanted.
And there was a man by the front door.
He turned around, his neck bent at an odd angle. He laughed and pointed at Blake.
Blake, backing away, failed to notice the basement stairs behind him, falling down them as the others watched in horror.
There was the sound of Blakes bones breaking as he hit the ground, then silence.
Screaming in terror, the remaining group fled upstairs, hoping to find a window to climb out of. Halfway up the stairs, Amber, at the back of the group, stepped on a rotting board.
It gave way under her foot, trapping her leg. As the others attempted to pull her out she became frantic, thrashing her leg and breaking it in between the boards.
As the Crooked Man approached, there was no time left to free Amber. Todd and Jessica were forced to flee, as the Crooked Man loomed over the poor girl.
He lifted a leg over her, stomping on her arm to break the bones and cause internal bleeding. Leaving her there to die, he continued his pursuit.
Todd and Jessica found themselves trapped in a bedroom with boarded windows. Grabbing a lamp, Todd was determined to ambush the creature when it entered.
Not realizing this was a paranormal entity, Todd himself was ambushed as the creature manifested behind him.
It knocked him into a wall with an immense blow to the stomach, as Jessica tried to intervene. The crooked man laughed in amusement at her efforts, grabbing her by the neck with one hand.
Todd could do nothing but watch, paralyzed from the pain.
When he had finished off the girl, the man closed in on Todd. As he started to pass out from the pain, he saw a larger figure appear behind his attacker.
Blake had survived the fall with fractured ribs and a broke leg. He grabbed the Crooked man by the neck and twisted it into a normal position.
The man let out a deathly scream and burst into flames, only to burn into ashes.
As Todd and Blake limped out of the house, a new friendship had been forged. Turning around, they were in front of the beautifully renovated house again.
They made their way back to the party, only to find noone had heard of their dead friends.
By dying in the past, before they were born, history had altered itself. The only ones that remembered were Todd and Blake, and even they questioned the events.
Life moved on and someone eventually bought the house.
And one day, the new homeowner returned to find a cat in his bedroom. Its neck however, was twisted at a very strange angle..
