It is evident how social media has changed the way people communicate and gather information. But, what you may not realize is that it also has affected how authors of almost all genres incorporate technology in their stories. Nowadays, you’ll encounter contemporary novels with conflicts about the main characters’ online presence, mystery stories about hacking, and thrillers about cyber-bullying.

A well-known story about social media and the Internet is The Circle by Dave Eggers. It is a dystopian novel that follows a tech worker named Mae Holland as she joins a powerful Internet company. Another is the Follow Me Back Series by A.V. Geiger. It is a young adult thriller that follows Eric Thorn, a pop star attempting to ruin his online presence after the murder of a fellow pop star, and Tessa Hart, Eric’s number one fan.
