Yet I know I've seen it move.

The Clock is Silent

The Clock is Silent by: zuxxa

The clock is silent.

I’ve taken it to the clockmakers, in an effort to repair it.

I’ve taken it to the clockmakers, in an effort to repair it. They only ever tell me that it never worked in the first place.

They tell me that it does not run on batteries, or electricity, or anything else that a good clock ought to run on.

They tell me it is merely decorative, but I know I’ve seen it move.

I know I’ve heard the chime it makes hour after hour.

I know I’ve heard the chime it makes hour after hour. I’ve seen the hands move every second.

I know I’ve heard the chime it makes hour after hour. I’ve seen the hands move every second. And yet they tell me I lie.

I am unsure what the time is.

It’s difficult to tell the time with a broken clock.

How am I meant to sleep on time?

How am I meant to sleep on time? How am I meant to wake?

How am I meant to sleep on time? How am I meant to wake? Must I forego seeing my friends because of a broken clock?

Who would want a friend like that?

It mocks me.

It mocks me. I know it does.

“Broken thing,” it speaks.

“Broken thing,” it speaks. “Now you are broken, too.

“Broken thing,” it speaks. “Now you are broken, too. See how well we can be broken.”

Yet its words don’t exist.

The clock is silent.

I am silent, too.
