Swimming Lessons (Suitloon)
(Inanimate Insanity) ❤️
Suitcase sat quietly atop a hill, staring off into the distance where the sun was shining past the clouds, making it look almost like a painting. A small smile came to her face, "Boy, you don't see a sight like this everyday."
"Hey Suitcase, what'cha doing?" Balloon's voice suddenly asked, as he was standing behind her. "Are you...are you okay?"
"No no, Balloon, I'm okay. What's up?" Suitcase turned to him, about to ask him to sit with her before noticing his tense stance. "Hey, uh what's the matter?"
"I-uh," Balloon began, twiddling his fingers nervously. "Would you..perhaps um, like to go somewhere else? Y-You know, together?" He blushed slightly.
Suitcase raised an eyebrow, standing up. "Sure, Balloon! I'd like to. Where do you wanna go? OJ's hotel to party?"
"Um...OJ doesn't want me at his house anymore, remember? After I vandalized his wall..." Balloon muttered the last part under his breath. "Actually I was thinking of um...us going down to the pool?"
"Oh, the pool sounds like a fun idea. Sure! Let's go!" Suitcase cheerily said, as she began walking ahead of him. Balloon timidly watched her, his thoughts going haywire.
Ooh, when am I gonna tell her?! He thought to himself. I can't just stand here and talk nonsense and babble like an idiot! I have to tell her my feelings! I have to..but I'm too scared.
"Balloon, we're here." Suitcase's voice made him snap back to reality, "are you okay?"
"Wha-huh?! Uh, yeah! Yeah, I'm okay. Sorry, I got a little distracted." Balloon gave her a nervous grin. "soooo, you wanna go swimming?"
"Yeah, but..." Suitcase suddenly looked nervous herself, "I can't really swim."
"You can't swim? Why?" Balloon asked, his face stricken with shock. "I thought you could!"
"I actually can't swim, without arms...I'm useless with swimming." Suitcase muttered, slumping down onto the grass. "A pathetic useless object."
Balloon shook his head, sitting down beside her. "H-Hey! Don't talk like that! You're not pathetic, or useless! Especially to me." He placed a gentle hand on her, not even noticing because he was lost in her eyes. "You mean so much more to me than that, Suitcase. You can do anything if you just try. Who care's if you don't have any arms?!"
Suitcase cracked a small but sad smile up at him. "Thanks, Balloon. I'm sorry I've just..been feeling down recently."
"I understand." Balloon said, and stood up. A new feeling of courage and determination filled him. He didn't know where it came from so suddenly but at that moment he didn't care. "Hey...how about I teach you how to swim?"
"Y-You...teach me? B-But-" Suitcase began, "Balloon, how will you be able to teach me..?"
"You'll kick with your legs, and I'll hold you! Easy peasy!" Balloon smiled, helping her up.
"Well...okay! I'll do it then!" She gazed up at him, eyes bright and full of hopefulness.
Balloon grinned, "That's the spirit! By the end of the afternoon, you'll be the fastest swimmer the whole cast has ever seen!"
The comment made Suitcase blush. "Y-You really think I'll be the fastest?" She asked shyly.
Balloon turned to her, and realizing what he just said, he began to stumble over his words. "I-I uh, w-well, yeah! Of course! Why wouldn't I? I'm your instructor for today, after all!" He laughed nervously, his face turning red as much as he was. "Now c'mon!"
He failed to notice the little all-knowing-smile that Suitcase had on her face.
After guiding Suitcase over to the pool and showing her the basics to swimming, it was time to get into the pool. Balloon went in first, and swam back a few feet, holding his hands out, "Okay Suitcase, jump in and I'll catch you!"
"Uh, is this a good idea? What if I drown?!"
"You won't drown! If you do, I'll save you!" Balloon said, "Now jump! C'mon, you can do it!"
Suitcase looked into the water, her legs shaking slightly. "O-Okay.." stepping backwards a couple feet, she closed her eyes and took a deep breath, before running quickly toward the edge of the pool, jumping in and landing directly into the water. After a few moments of waiting, Suitcase didn't pop back up from underwater.
Balloon nearly felt himself deflate in panic as he realized she had gone in too deep. "O-oh geez! S-Suitcase?!" He swam quickly to the spot where she had landed. He saw her still laying underwater, and he began to panic even more. She really couldn't swim!
"H-Hold on, Suitcase! I'm coming!" Balloon held his breath before diving under, swimming hurriedly toward Suitcase, who was still not seeming to be moving at all. Balloon finally reached her and grabbed her, hositing her up as he swam to the surface.
Gasping hold of the fresh air, Balloon floated them both to the side of the pool and climbed out. He laid Suitcase down on her back, and glanced down at her, his panic level only rising once he saw that she wasn't even moving.!"Suitcase! Are you okay?! Speak to me!"
Suitcase didn't say anything. She didn't even twitch. Balloon's face paled as he took hold of her hand, which was starting to grow colder by the second, his eyes starting to water. "S-Suitcase..?! Suitcase! Please...p-please don't leave me. I-I need you!" He shut his eyes, "you can't die yet!"
Balloon's eyes suddenly snapped open. He remembered what Baseball had taught him when they went swimming together. CPR.
Balloon bent down to Suitcase and began to pump her chest, and blew into her mouth. He repeated this for a couple of moments, before stopping and seeing that she still hadn't moved. She wasn't breathing.
"No...no..no no no no, please no!" Balloon cried, "Suitcase! Please! I-I can't let you die! You..." Balloon's mouth quivered as he gently picked her up, holding him against her as his tears began dropping onto her face. "y-you mean the world to me, Suitcase...I-I'm sorry I didn't say it sooner..."
A sudden cough made Balloon's eyes widen, as he gasped and looked down. Suitcase was coughing up water, her breathing returning.
"Suitcase! Y-You're alive!" Balloon exclaimed happily, joy filling his heart as he hugged her tightly. "Oh thank the stars! I thought you were gone!"
"You..*cough* can't get rid of me that easily..." Suitcase winced painfully, before coughing again. She looked up at him before smiling, "I..I heard what you said..."
Looking shocked again, Balloon blushed furiously and averted his eyes, still holding onto her. "You..did...?"
"Y-Yeah..and, you mean the world to me too, Balloon." Suitcase weakly sat up. "I know that you have kept your feelings for me inside too. It's okay...I feel the same way about you." She smiled shyly, pink colouring her cheeks.
"Y-You like me too?" Balloon asked, his squeaky voice almost a whisper. "R-Really?!"
"Heh, yeah. I've felt scared about telling you so many times..." Suitcase explained. "You just...were there alot for me. We were there for each other in those hard times. I'm just so grateful to be by your side, Balloon. I...I love you."
Balloon's eyes began to fill with tears once again. He sniffed, gently embracing Suitcase by surprise. She hugged back, also starting to cry.
"I-I love you too, Suitcase. You are the bestest object I-I've ever met in my life." Balloon cried. "I'm so happy t-to have met someone like you. You...you bring me so much joy into my life. You're so special to me..." he stepped back, looking into her eyes. "I..I want to be with you."
"I want to be with you too, Balloon." Suitcase said. She leaned forward, pressing her lips to his in a gentle kiss. Balloon felt his heart leap as his stomach fluttered at the sensation. He had never been kissed before!
Suitcase quickly backed away, eyes wide. "O-oh no! Um, I-I'm sorry Balloon, d-did I go too fast..?!"
"N-No! No you didn't it's okay, I'm just a little surprised." Balloon laughed, as Suitcase calmed down. "Geez, that...sure was something."
"Yeah.." Suitcase nodded. She looked back up at him, their eyes both catching each other, smiling.
"SUITCASE!" Came an extremly angry and annoyed voice, making them both jump and lose the connection that they were having at the moment. "There you are! Me and Baseball have been searching everywhere for you!" Nickel stopped stomping as he and Baseball approached the two.
"What's HE doing here with you?" He asked irritably, nodding his head to Balloon, who only grinned weakly in response.
"N-Nickel! Um..." Suitcase stammered, "we.. were just out for a little stroll! And decided to go for a swim. Why were you looking for me?"
"OJ wants you to join him at his party," Baseball explained. "It's pretty awesome right now, there's a DJ and a Disco Ball! Everyone's having a fun time."
"O-Oh. Well..." Suitcase glanced over to Balloon, blushing a litttle. "Can...Balloon join us?"
Nickel scoffed, "Him? No way! Why would we wanna invite a vandalizer and a total jerk?! He's no friend of ours."
Baseball frowned. "Now Nickel...don't you think you're jumping to conclusions? Surely Balloon never meant to do the things he did. We should give him a second chance!"
"What? Are you serious?" Nickel snapped at him, "what makes you think he'll ever get a second chance? All he'll do is use us and contiune being the jerkwad and wannabe he used to be!"
"Hey! N-now hold on a second, I'm not a jerk! Or a wannabe!" Balloon shouted defensively. "I know I vandalized OJ's wall, but I didn't mean to cause any trouble to you guys in the past! Honest!"
"Sure you didn't." Nickel rolled his eyes and turned around. "Come on Baseball, lets get outta here. You too, Suitcase."
Suitcase, keeping her feet planted firmly on the ground, said in the strongest voice she could muster, "I'm not going anywhere."
"Huh?" Nickel stopped in his tracks, Baseball also stopped, looking shocked. "You want to stay with that loser?"
"Balloon isn't a loser! And he's not a jerk, don't ever talk to him like that!" Suitcase snapped angrily at him. Nickel's eyes went large as he took a step back. Suitcase had never raised her voice to anyone. "He..he may have vandalized OJ's wall and has been rude in the past, but I know him far better than you! And I know he can change, unlike YOU, Nickel!"
Balloon stared at Suitcase in silence, his eyes wide. His heart thumped warmly, seeing that she was willingly standing up for him, and to herself.
"Ugh, fine." Nickel finally said, his voice still thick with annoyance, but a hint of hurt was behind it too. "Stay here with that Helium Freak. See if I care." He stalked off, Baseball following behind looking happy that Suitcase had stood up to Nickel for once.
Suitcase panted heavily, still angered by how ungrateful Nickel was. She calmly took a deep breath, shutting her eyes. "Stupid Nickel..."
"Um, t-thank you, Suitcase.." Balloon anxiously muttered, walking up beside her. A faint redness was in his cheeks. "Y-You stood up for me. Nobody's ever really done that for me...thank you."
Suitcase turned to him, smiling bravely. "No problem, Balloon! Woah, I..I'm never been that proud of myself for awhile! Using such big words...that felt good!"
"I bet it did." Balloon smiled, giving her a pat on the back. "But what will he tell the others..? What if they hate you?"
Suitcase looked into his eyes, and gently gave him a kiss on the cheek. "You worry too much, silly. Don't worry, they won't hate me for standing up to Nickel. Well, if they do, who cares?" She sighed. "As long as I know you're okay, that's all that I care about."
"O-Oh Suitcase..." Balloon said tearfully, "you're the greatest friend I could ever have. And uh..g-girlfriend too..." he looked away, blushing again.
Suitcase laughed and shoved him playfully. "Aw c'mon you big softie. C'mon, let's go down to the dock. We can watch the sunset."
Balloon looked pleased by hearing that, losing his sudden nervousness. "Ooh, sure! The sunset! I'm with you all the way, Suitcase!" He grinned, and she grinned back. They both made their way down to the dock by the water, spending the rest of the afternoon with themselves.
And that's all that they could've ever wanted.
THE END 💚❤️
