I started walking through a pile of autumn leaves. They made a crunching noise as I trampled over them. I shivered. It was oddly cold for October. Tomorrow was the 31st of October. Halloween.
I don’t want to seem like a scaredy-cat but I hate Halloween. I’m terrified of it. Let me tell you why.
Last year’s Halloween: “Katy could you take our dog for a walk?” my mom yelled. “Sure, mom!” I replied back. “C’mon Bruno, lets go.” I closed the front door and started walking out.
It’s Halloween today so all the houses on our block are decorated with spooky decorations like coffins, mummies, fake cob webs etc. You get the picture.
I couldn’t wait to go trick or treating that day. It would be so much fun! It was the evening so it was pretty dark already. I saw a house that was all boarded up with cobwebs covering it.
The typical horror movie house. But the thing is the house was actually not decorated like that. It was real. No one had lived there for ages and it was said to be actually haunted.
Suddenly I heard a voice calling me. “Katy, get in the house.” “Huh? Who is it?” I managed to stammer. There was no one there. The voice told me to go in the house.
“Should I?” I thought to myself. And like the dumb person I am I went inside.
The door wasn’t even locked. I just gave it a push and it opened. I saw a set of stairs before me and just then the door slammed shut. I tried to push it open but it didn’t budge. It was locked.
Isn’t this the type of thing that happens in horror movies? I started moving upstairs as I had nowhere else to go.
When I reached the first door I saw an ancient room with a couple of toys in it. A rocking horse, a few dolls, tops and a red ball. Terrifying.
I went inside the room. And you probably guessed it. The rocking horse was moving. There were no windows there. I quickly exited that room and went to the next. This one was the bathroom.
I tried not to look at the mirror cause all horror movies have a ghost in the mirror, right? Though I tried not to look at it something caught my eye.
“Get out!” was clearly written on the mirror in red paint. Or blood. Most probably the latter but I didn’t want to think about it. I just wanted to get out.
I started to run down the stairs. I slammed on the door with all my strength but it still wouldn’t budge. I was hopeless. There was a hallway right next to the stairs.
“I wonder where it leads?” I thought to myself. I heard a child-like voice coming from the hallway. I got goosebumps on my skin. “Who is there?” I yelled out.
“I’m not scared of you!” Another child-like giggle. I mustered up all the courage I had and went in the hallway.
What I saw really frightened me. There was a little girl with icy blue eyes staring at me. There was something dripping from her forehead, blood. I stood still.
“Will you play with me?” she whispered to me. I was frozen. “Will you play with me?” she asked again. The ability to speak had left me.
“I can’t play with you, please let me go” I whispered almost crying. “No, I won’t let you go. Your my new best friend.” “No, I’m not your friend’ I replied.
Just as I said that she seemed to go crazy. She started coming towards me with a devilish look on her face. He long black hair twined together like serpents.
“Why won’t you be my friend?” she asked in a voice unlike a small girl’s.
I raced to the door my mind not working properly. I slammed the door again and again with my shoulder until it hurt real bad. I hurled a chair at it and pushed with all my might.
I heard a click. Could the door have opened? I twisted the knob and it gave away. Yes! I opened the door, went outside and slammed it just as the girl was almost outside.
I locked it and started running to my house. The rest I don’t remember...
Present day, Halloween: So now you know why I hate Halloween so much. I have talked about what I remember and don’t wish to do anymore.
