To the poets of this world, a Villanelle.

To fill the pages that were torn away

Dear poet, walk, although your shoes are worn, Amid the winding foliage and trees, Leave footprints as the pages that were torn.

And from this lasting journey, it is born: Your glory as your fleeting legacy, Dear poet, walk, although your shoes are worn.

From sunset to the sunrise, night to morn, Beyond the open sky, beside the sea, Leave footprints as the pages that were torn.

When weights bear down as voices aim to scorn, When doubts arise and tempt your soul to flee, Dear poet, walk, although your shoes are worn.

With every step, you lift those left forlorn, And fill this tome with blazing empathy-- Leave footprints as the pages that were torn.

Though there be valleys where the grass is shorn,

Though there be valleys where the grass is shorn, Though flood and fire and earthquakes there may be,

Though there be valleys where the grass is shorn, Though flood and fire and earthquakes there may be, Dear poet, walk, although your shoes are worn,

Though there be valleys where the grass is shorn, Though flood and fire and earthquakes there may be, Dear poet, walk, although your shoes are worn, Leave footprints as the pages that were torn.
