It is lying on the table As I enter the house

A fearsome warning of a failed attempt To catch a giant mouse

A sharpened talon Alone and still

The deadly reminder of a cat Who couldn't make a kill

The cat herself Has not at all been harmed

She sits beside me calmly, Not in the least alarmed

The warning was not made for her But for her prey

Her prey, the giant mouse, who prowls the world all day and her Her phone screen bright with bluish light

This mouse among mice Whom no cat should dare to cross

Sits dumbfounded Completely at a loss

As to why the beast betrayed her.

This was clever and at the same time cute and a serious probe in to kitty cat behavior. Great work!!
