Jake took hold of Ivy’s hand. “The entire town is in flames we need to move!” He was losing his patience on top of that he let the fear get to him. Ivy was speechless but followed her husband as they tried to make their way out of the burning town.
The young couple dodged and leaped over parts of falling houses. They coughed ferociously. “Jake!” Ivy screamed as she saw her her husband be crushed by debris from the waist down. Ivy didn’t waste any time and with all her might she tried to free Jake’s legs. But Jake only laid there with fear in his eyes with tears falling down.
He knew what was going to happen. Jake struggled to reach for his pocket. “What are you doing?!” Ivy exclaimed. Jake huffed and pulled out a silver locket from his pocket. Ivy came closer to Jake’s upper body. With Jake’s only free hand he put the locket in Ivy’s hand.
When the sun rose, Ivy slowly sat up with her eyes still shut. “Maybe, it was all just a nightmare.” She convinced herself. “Jake, honey. I’m going to make breakfast.” Ivy said with her eyes still closed. Ivy shook as she stood up and her breath became heavy. She slowly opened her eyes and fell to the ground.
He looked up at her with teary eyes and a smile. “I love you Ivy.” “Don’t do this Jake.” Ivy begged. Jake squeezed her hand with the locket in her grasp. “Someone needs to live to tell our story.” “Jake...no.” Before Jake could answer more debris fell on him, and Ivy couldn’t see him anymore.
Ivy felt nothing in that moment, but she sprinted to find a way out of the burning little town. Determination filled her soul. “For Jake, I must survive.” Ivy kept repeating to herself. Moments later Ivy heard one last blast and she flew to a nearby cliff.
She was on her hands and knees and sobbed. “Everyone is gone...everything is gone. Then she raised her head up to the ashy sky. “Why am I still alive?!” She screamed. She covered her face with both her hands and continued to weep.
