Ring, Ring, Ring. The old home phone was vibrating nonstop. Amelia crouched down under a table in the kitchen, awaiting a stranger to break into her house.
She didn't know what persuaded her to do this, but she picked up the phone, and answered. "Hello?" She asked, her voice trembling against the pure silence in the room.
There was a buzz, and the phone hung up. Her eyes darted to the static TV, and static computer, and then her phone, which was flashing with the message, 'CoMe oUtSiDe' in green letters.
She stepped towards the window, and peeked through the blinds.
She failed to hold back a gasp when the saw a group of around 25 men outside in black suits, each equipped with a blade in the left hand, and a pistol in the right.
As if on cue, all of the men's heads turned to the window were Amelia was looking out, and fired a shot from a pistol.
Out of both instinct and reflex, she held he hands in front of her face, in a feeble hope to stop the bullet. Amelia was waiting for the gain, but it didn't come.
Instead, there was a soft tap, and an even softer clinking noise as the bullets bounced off of her hands. Apparently, instincts had become Amelia's go-to.
She smashed the window completely, and stepped out. When a bullet shot her in the heart, it felt like a pinprick, and she shrugged it off.
She ran as fast as she could, kicking the men in the face/chest as she ran, until she came to a working telephone booth. The punched in, '911' and waited for an answer that never came.
She heard, 'This is 911, what's your emergency?" From the other end, and smashed the phone down immediately.
Why? She saw one of the men talking into a phone, muttering those exact words at the exact same time. She ran back into her house through the window, then tried, and failed, to board it up.
She ran to the phone in her house before anyone could stop her, and dialed '911' again. After all, there were many emergency responders.
She didn't hear the rehearsed, 'What's your emergency?' Thing that usually happened, but she heard an electronic, glitchy voice, utter the words, "I warned you.
" by now, her phone had the same message, in big green letters. 'i WaRnEd yOu'. Amelia has entered a panicked state, and left the old home phone hanging off the wire without putting it back in.
She stormed into her room, to find the man with the glitchy, electronic, voice, wearing a headset, messing around with a normal computer that wasn't glitchy or anything.
Once he saw Amelia he raged with fury, and messed with his headset. "Your job was to hold her off!" He whisper-yelled into the headset mic, and turned to Amelia.
To her surprise, he smiled warmly and offered a hand. "You handled that well." He said once Amelia nervously took his hand.
"Would you like to become a Jupiter Warrior?" He asked, and presented a badge. Amelia wasn't sure, but what's a little thrill? "I'll think on it." She said, with a smirk.
