A poem I wrote last year about a very bad thing that happened when I was 15.

There are Words we Don't Say

There are words we don’t say

Because we are afraid

That they will bring pain

As they enter the air

And linger and hang

And fall away into silence.

I can feel my lungs contract

As the words leave my mouth

As nothing goes in

And nothing comes out

And I choke on my guilt

And the ghost of the past

And remember the mornings

And remember the mornings Of helpless regret

There is nothing to fear,

There is nothing to fear, But my mind is on fire

My body is tensed

My body is tensed I’m anxious and tired

I just want to sleep

I just want to sleep And give death to the days

That gave birth to the phrase

That gave birth to the phrase “There are words we don’t say.”
