We all used to believe
In what others--of greater power-- envisioned
And that things ended
When the universe said so.
And our naivetés have faded.
We can peer through the falling rain and catch sight of the other side, even though the sky never quite clears.
We have come to find
Nothing really ever ends, even if we try to convince ourselves of it.
Things change; surely
Bad things get worse; good things go bad
But it takes us. It takes people like us
To stare down
And laugh in its face, saying:
