“All I long for is someone who can understand and someone who will listen… Someone that’s been through the same thing as me and know how it feels.
Is that too much to ask?” He stuttered his voice now becoming shaky.
“You try to be friends with someone and they call you weird because of the things you’ve been through.”
“I understand,” She told him.
“No you don’t!” He shouted back.
“You never will! Do you understand what it’s like to have this constant fear lingering over you like a stormy cloud?
The fear that one day when you wake up, everything you loved and worked for is gone? I’m just sick of it all… Sick of this life... “ He paused.
“Eating with plastic silverware because that’s all you have, or how about living in a small apartment that can’t even fit your whole family in it because you can’t afford a house.”
He looked at her and saw a fresh tear streaming down her cheek as she listened to his words.
Seeing her cry made him even more vulnerable, and now he was crying, even though he told himself he wouldn’t break down. She moved closer putting her arm around him comforting him.
“I just wish it was easier,” He said. “These people will ruin you.”
“Hey listen,” She spoke hesitantly. “I might not ever be able to fully understand what you’ve been through, but I truly do know how you feel.” He looked up into her eyes that were glazed over.
“I know what it’s like to feel like no one is listening, or that no one really cares. And it’s true, they don’t care about us.
No one does, that’s why you have to learn to care about yourself and only yourself...
The sad truth is… No matter how much we want it… And no matter how much we try… Not everythings going to turn out the way you want it to.” She said.
“Not all stories have that happy ending we all hope for. This life is hard and it’ll take you under the exact moment you let it.
” That hit him like a train when he finally realized the words she said were true. “Life is what you make of it.”
“You’re right,” He said. “I just wish I could have more to offer you. If I could gift wrap the globe, I would give you the world because you most definitely deserve it.” He told her.
“Awe, that’s sweet, but I don’t care about the money. I don’t care about the gifts you get for me, even though they are sweet. I just want you.
I love you for you and not for the things you buy me. Now cheer up and promise me something.”
“What?” He wondered.
“Promise me no matter how hard things get, no matter how hard life hits you, you won’t leave without me…”
