Dr.Moon mindlessly walked into Jimin’s hospital room. Immediately, the beautiful sound of laughter filled her ears as her head shot up from her clipboard.
Her heart warmed as she saw all five of them basking in each other’s happiness.
Suddenly, Dr.Moon’s eyes doubled in size as she recounted the number of men in the room. “One, two, three, four, five,” she counted in her head.
She didn’t remember seeing the tree-sized man or the man with cat eyes the first time she entered Jimin’s room. Either way, this made her lips curl upward. So many people were here for Jimin.
Some patients she was assigned had no one and that was truly heartbreaking. The palpable love in the room reminded her that the world was in fact beautiful.
Jimin was truly lucky to have such an amazing support system.
As much as she wanted to let them continue on with their blissful encounter, she had to do her job. The quicker she got her job done the quicker Jimin could go home with all of his loved ones.
Dr.Moon cleared her throat loudly in order to grab the attention of the men. One by one, each of their heads swiveled toward Dr.Moon.
“Mr.Park, I’m back with your results,” Dr.Moon stated as she walked toward the front of Jimin’s bed. Jimin’s eyebrows arched as he awaited Dr.Moon’s diagnosis.
Namjoon grabbed an empty chair and placed it next to Jin’s chair. He waved his hand in order to get Yoongi’s attention then pointed toward the chair.
Yoongi shyly smiled as he sat down in the chair Namjoon brought for him. Once Yoongi was seated, Namjoon grabbed onto Yoongi’s delicate shoulders and gave his full attention to Dr.Moon.
Each one of them wanted to know exactly what Jimin was diagnosed with.
“Mr.Park, you’re malnourished and sleep deprived,” Dr.Moon bluntly revealed. Jimin’s eyebrows furrowed and Hoseok’s grip tighten around his hand. He didn’t completely understand.
Of course, he knew what malnourishment was, but he didn’t understand why he fainted.
It had probably only been about a couple weeks since he lost his appetite, so it couldn’t have been that serious. Right? Questions like these had to be answered.
Just as he was about to open his mouth, Hoseok questioned Dr.Moon.
“Why did he faint, though?”
Almost as if Dr.Moon was expecting that question, she quickly flipped to the next paper and pushed her glasses back up to the bridge of her nose.
“As I said, Mr.Park wasn’t only malnourished, but also sleep deprived. When you haven’t eaten for such a long time your body becomes weak and your energy levels are low. Sleep deprivation intensifies the symptoms. In other words, Mr.Park was extremely weak and his energy levels were extremely low.~
~It didn’t help that Jimin was also following an intense exercise regime. His body couldn’t take it anymore and simply gave out,” Dr.Moon explained.
It all made sense now. Jimin’s lip pouted outward as he realized what exactly he did to his body.
Of course he knew that there would be a recovery period, but he wanted to know how long that would be. He needed to be better quick. His heart raced as a new question suddenly came to light.
That one nagging question began to eat him up inside. Would he be able to perform on Friday?
“The questions I asked Jimin earlier helped me create a dietary plan for Mr.Park to follow. However, before I explain everything to you, the nurses are going to weigh you and measure your BMI. We already drew blood from you so we won’t have to stick any more needles in you,” Dr.Moon stated as she stared intently at Jimin.
“Any more questions before I call the nurse?”
“What’s in the drip?” Jimin questioned as he tilted his head. The nagging question could wait. He figured that when Dr.Moon explained his recovery plan that his question would be answered.
Also, Jimin thought if he asked the question right now that it would come off as insouciant. Right now it was more important to ask what exactly they were putting in his body.
“After I examined the blood drawn from you, I noticed your hemoglobin levels were low. That was the first indicator of your malnutrition. You need to eat more iron rich food, Mr.Park. Anyway, the IV drip is filled with nutrients to help stabilize your hemoglobin levels and also provide you with the vitamins you weren’t receiving beforehand,” Dr.Moon replied as she shook her finger at Jimin.
It was almost as if she was an angry mother telling her son to eat more vegetables. However, this angry mother was an expert on the human body.
Instead of shaking it off just as an annoyed son would, Jimin made a mental note to eat more iron rich foods.
Jimin slowly nodded his head as everything started to become clearer and clearer. Using his head nod as an indicator that everything was okay, Dr.Moon exited the room after telling Jimin that the nurse would be here shortly.
The room filled with the clicking of her shoes until she opened the door and walked outside.
Once the door closed behind Dr.Moon, Jimin’s lips curved downward and formed a low frown. He was embarrassed. “Malnutrition,” Jimin repeated to himself.
Jimin had managed to mess up his whole body just by not eating. It should have been pretty simple to feed himself.
In a world where you had little control in your life, making sure he ate should have been the easiest thing to manage. His face warmed up as he felt himself blush with embarrassment.
He wondered what the others thought about his whole situation.
Almost as if Hoseok knew what Jimin was thinking, Hoseok intertwined his fingers with Jimin’s. “I’ll be here to help you. I’m going to make sure that everything is alright. You don’t have to worry about anything,” Hoseok smiled as he stared dearingly into Jimin’s crescent eyes.
Jimin nodded his head as he felt himself melt into Hoseok’s hands.
Hoseok always knew how to cheer Jimin up. He truly was the sun in Jimin’s life.
“We’ll help too,” Namjoon beamed as he pulled Jin and Yoongi into a hug.
“You can count on us,” Jin chirped.
“Nothing is going to change because of this,” Yoongi assured Jimin as a shy smile enveloped his face.
Tears filled Jimin’s eyes as he stared at the beautiful people in front of him. They truly had hearts of gold. He wasn’t used to all of this love. Their pure concern was palpable.
This let Jimin know that all of them were sincere.
Once Jin saw the tears in Jimin’s eyes, he pulled everyone into a group hug. Each of them intertwined as they comforted the now sobbing Jimin.
“Th-Thank you,” Jimin cried as he pulled all of them closer to him. All of his worries and all of his embarrassment faded away with their kind words.
There was no malintent and there was no hate. These people truly just wanted the best for him. Each one of them pushed out the darkness looming in Jimin’s mind. He was finally free.
Free of fear.
Free of second guessing.
Free of never feeling enough.
Suddenly, a male nurse bursted through the room. The moment his eyes landed on the hugfest, he hid behind his clipboard and tried to exit the room.
This moment looked too precious to interrupt. However, despite his efforts, Yoongi noticed the shy nurse tiptoeing out of the room.
“The nurse is here,” Yoongi announced as he pulled himself out of the Jimin and Namjoon sandwich. Quickly, the nurse brought the clipboard down and nervously stared at the men.
He instantly felt bad for breaking apart their heartwarming moment.
“Sorry for interrupting! If you need more time I can come back later,” the nurse stated as he rubbed the back of his neck with his free hand. “It’s fine. I’m ready,” Jimin confidently replied as he pulled the covers off of himself.
The male nurse carefully took the clip off of Jimin’s left index finger and turned the machine off. Jimin examined his finger that was now red.
Slowly, Jimin slid off of the bed, holding onto the IV pole. Once he was sure that he was balanced, Jimin began to slowly walk toward the door as he pushed the IV pole along.
As a precaution, the male nurse lingered behind Jimin. The reason for this was so that he could catch Jimin if he slipped and fell.
All of the men’s eyes were glued on Jimin until he safely exited the room.
Suddenly, Hoseok felt his pocket vibrate. Quickly, he pulled his phone out. His eyebrows knitted together as he saw his blank screen.
Despite holding his phone in his hand, his pocket continued to buzz. Confused, Hoseok patted all of his pockets. However, there was no other phone.
Suddenly, he realize that the buzzing was coming from the inside of his hoodie pocket.
He pulled the phone out and read the name, “Kookie.” His eyebrows arched up as he realized that this was Jimin’s phone. Hoseok had forgotten that he was holding onto it.
However, he couldn’t give it to Jimin now since he was out with the nurse getting weighed. Hesitantly, Hoseok answered the phone.
“Jimin, where are you?” Jungkook questioned.
“Jungkook, this isn’t Ji-”
“Taehyung and I have been banging on your door for fifteen minutes now! It’s freezing out here!” Jungkook whined.
“This is Hoseok.”
“Hoseok? Where’s Jimin?” Jungkook asked.
“Jungkook, um, Jimin is at the hospital right now,” Hoseok revealed.
There was a long pause.
Almost as if Jungkook had froze, a loud gasp was heard through the phone.
“What happened? Is he okay? Is he hurt? What’s going on?” Jungkook frantically panicked.
Taehyung’s deep voice was heard as he asked Jungkook what was wrong. Immediately, Jungkook revealed to Taehyung that Jimin was at the hospital.
The couple was now bombarding Hoseok with questions. Suddenly, Hoseok began to hear Taehyung and Jungkook grunt as they both fought for the phone.
A loud thump was heard followed by a muffled whimper.
“Hoseok?” Taehyung questioned as the sound of wind began to enter the phone. It was quite obvious that Taehyung was running away from Jungkook.
“Yes?” Hoseok answered as he tried to hold back his laughter.
“Can you please send Jungkook the hospital’s address? We’ll be there quickly!” Taehyung panted as Jungkook’s shouts were heard in the background.
“Will do! See you soon,” Hoseok chirped.
Before he hung up the phone, Jungkook shouted as he pounced on Taehyung. The phone dropped and Taehyung’s screeches filled the hospital room. Quickly, Hoseok hung up the phone and stared at his three friends with a blank expression.
Each of them held a confused face as they stared at Hoseok waiting for an explanation.
“That was Jimin’s friend, Jungkook, and his boyfriend, Taehyung. They should be coming soon,” Hoseok revealed as he grabbed one of the two coffees on the table.
Seeing Hoseok act as if what they just heard was normal concerned the trio. Those screams didn’t sound human. Their confusion soon turned to fear once they realized that they would be joining them.
“Yuck,” Hoseok muttered as the cold coffee hit his tongue. He frowned as he realized he had nothing to drink now. “I’ll go with you to get more coffee,” Yoongi stated as he stood up from his chair.
“Me too,” Namjoon smiled as he grabbed Yoongi’s hand. Immediately, Yoongi’s cheeks turned a sweet shade of pink as his gaze dropped to the floor. Yoongi still wasn’t used to public acts of affection.
However, he didn’t totally oppose it either.
“It’s fine. I’m just going to stay here. I don’t know when Jimin will be back and I want to be here for everything,” Hoseok chuckled as he began to twiddle with his fingers.
He felt bad for declining Yoongi’s offer, but he was worried for Jimin. Jimin needed someone with him when Dr.Moon revealed his recovery plan and Hoseok wanted that someone to be him.
Just as he was about to apologize, Yoongi told him that it was okay and that they would bring him back a coffee. A smile enveloped Hoseok’s face as he thanked Yoongi.
Namjoon and Yoongi walked out of the hospital room, hand in hand. Jin giggled as he noticed Yoongi’s red ears.
Jin and Hoseok were left alone in the room. For a while, the pair didn’t say a word. They sat in their chairs silently. Hoseok couldn’t take the silence any longer and opened his mouth.
“Thank you, hyung,” Hoseok grinned. Jin’s face gleamed as his lips curved upwards. “Of course, Hoseok. I’ll always be here for you and Jimin,” Jin beamed.
Hearing Jimin’s name in that sentence made Hoseok’s heart skip a beat. He was so glad that all of his dearest friends supports and cared for Jimin.
Jimin was the sole reason for Hoseok’s happiness. Hoseok’s universe was brightened by his own glowing star, Jimin.
“How are you holding up?” Jin questioned as he took a sip of his coffee.
Hoseok was taken back by the question. He didn’t really know how to answer that. Honestly, he was so focused on Jimin that he didn’t even notice his own well being. His lips squeezed together as he thought long and hard. All of his emotions soon came to light.
“I’m worried for Jimin. I honestly kind of feel guilty. I should’ve noticed it sooner,” Hoseok revealed as his facial expression turned gloomy.
“It’s not your fault, Hoseok,” Jin stated as he placed his coffee cup down. Jin’s fierce eyes stared deeply into Hoseok’s eyes and reached his soul.
Hoseok should be feeling a million things right now, but guilty shouldn’t be one of them. After everything that he had been through with Jimin, Hoseok should be feeling relief right now, not guilt.
He’d be damned if Hoseok thought that anything that happened today was his fault. It was completely out of his hands.
“You’re here now and that’s all that matters, okay?” Jin smiled. Hoseok returned the smile as he nodded his head.
“118 pounds,” the male nurse murmured as he scribbled on the clipboard.
Jimin tried to sneak a peek of the papers. However, he was too far away for Jimin’s eyes to even reach the paper.
Suddenly, the man’s head shot up and saw the diminutive patient desperately trying to see his results. A smile enveloped is face as Jimin’s cheeks turned red from being caught.
Without any hesitation, the nurse stood next to Jimin and showed him the colorful chart on his paper.
Jimin’s eyebrows furrowed as he tried to figure out what exactly this chart was for. He stared up at the nurse with pouty eyes, waiting for him to explain.
“This is the BMI index,” he revealed. Once he noticed that Jimin’s confused expression didn’t disappear, he chuckled as he prepared to explain more thoroughly. “BMI stands for body mass index. This chart helps us see if you’re underweight, healthy, overweight, or obese,” he explained.
Jimin’s eyes widened as his mouth slowly dropped. “So, where am I?” Jimin questioned as he tried to figure out the graph.
The nurse took out his pen and underlined 5’9 on the height line and 118 on the weight line. His pen tapped on 5’9.
“This is your height.” His pen slowly moved to the right until it reached the green region of the graph. He left a small black dot then followed the line upward until he reached a number on the weight line.
“If you’re 5’9 you should weigh between 130 pounds…” The nurse's voice trailed off as his pen moved to the edge of the green region. “Or 165 pounds in order to be considered healthy.”
“Where am I?” Jimin repeated as he became more and more curious.
The nurses smile slowly turned to a frown as he made a dot in the blue region. Jimin’s eyes quickly shot up to the key in order to figure out what the color blue meant.
His heart sunk as he read the word “underweight.”
“You’re 118 pounds when you should weigh 130. Sadly, you’re underweight for your height,” the nurse revealed.
The pair stood in silence. Concerned, the nurse looked over at Jimin and his heart broke. Jimin’s expression looked beyond consolable. It was quite obvious that he was trying to hold back his tears as his bottom lip quivered.
“D-Don’t worry! This can quickly be fi-fixed! Dr.Moon will create a dietary plan that will help you have a speedy recovery!” the nurse sputtered as he tried to console the destroyed Jimin.
“Really?” Jimin murmured as his heart slowly lifted back up. “Yes, sir!” the nurse beamed as he patted Jimin’s back.
His lips curled upward as his hope returned.
“Okay! Then let’s go back now,” Jimin smiled as he grabbed onto the IV pole.
