“Hello,” Jimin murmured as he suddenly felt anxious. Hoseok quickly lifted his head up from Jimin’s lap and stared curiously at the clipboard Dr.Moon was staring at.
The sound of the pages flipping echoed through the room and Dr.Moon began to furrow her brows. As Dr.Moon read the papers, Jimin’s hand began to shake.
He was scared to figure out what was wrong with him. Noticing this, Hoseok intertwined his fingers with Jimin’s and squeezed his hand. Jimin smiled as he felt Hoseok’s thumb rubbing his hand.
“Mr.Park, do you know why you fainted?” Dr.Moon questioned as she suddenly flipped all the pages back. Nervously, Jimin shook his head. Dr.Moon slowly nodded her head as she scribbled something on the paper.
Of course Jimin didn’t know why he was here. He was taken back by the question.
If anything she was here to tell him why, not ask him why. Through the corner of his eye, Jimin saw Jin’s eyebrows knit together and his head tilt.
It seemed as if Jimin wasn’t the only one taken back by her question.
“I have an idea as to what caused this sudden episode. However, I can’t say unless I am certain,” Dr.Moon bluntly stated.
Jimin’s lips pouted and he let out a small sigh. “When will you be certain?” Jin asked. Hoseok looked at Jin then at Dr.Moon and waited for her response.
“Once I analyze all of Jimin’s answers to my questions,” Dr.Moon revealed as she gave Jin an eye smile. Jin nodded his head as he stared back at Jimin. “May I begin?” Dr.Moon questioned as she shook her clipboard.
Hesitantly, Jimin nodded.
“Please try to answer all of the questions accurately and honestly,” Dr.Moon instructed as she flipped through the many papers attached to her clipboard.
Once she finally found her place, Dr.Moon clicked her pen and opened her mouth.
“How many hours of sleep do you normally get?”
Jimin’s heart froze. He wasn’t sure if he was hearing her correctly.
How many hours of sleep did he get? Hours of sleep that were received? Number of hours he spent asleep? Sleep that consumed hours that he also intook?
Jimin’s mind was racing. He couldn’t remember the last time he had a full eight hours of sleep. His whole body ached as his brain looked through his files.
Each night he would wake up and become restless. The time he should have used sleeping was instead used to practice or overthink.
Suddenly, Jimin’s brain brought back a memory that he had tried to forget.
Dark circles and jutting cheekbones that he never noticed before. The night he slept over at Hoseok’s house was the night he couldn’t recognize himself.
Hoseok’s bathroom mirror didn’t show Jimin’s reflection. Instead it showed Jimin a hideous monster. Suddenly, his heart began to race as a question began to nag him.
“Is that how they all see me now?” Jimin asked himself.
“Jimin?” Hoseok called out as he squeezed Jimin’s hand. Immediately, Jimin was pulled out of his trance. He nervously coughed into the crook of arm to hide his embarrassment.
Dr.Moon tapped on her clipboard with her pen, reminding Jimin that he had a question to answer. “Um, probably...” Jimin murmured as his voice trailed off.
“I’m going to need you to speak up,” Dr.Moon stated. Jimin nodded his head, but repeated what he did the first time.
“Mr.Park, this isn’t helping me diagnose you. I’m here to help you, not judge you. I’ve seen about everything now. Please, trust me,” Dr.Moon assured him.
Jimin knew that Dr.Moon wouldn’t judge him, it was Hoseok he was worried about. He didn’t necessarily think that Hoseok would judge him, but that Hoseok would be disappointed.
Maybe Hoseok would feel a little hurt. Hoseok would want to know why Jimin didn’t ask him for help. However, right now wasn’t the time to overthink.
Right now he needed to figure out what was wrong with him.
“Two to three hours,” Jimin revealed as he kept his head down. He could feel Hoseok’s gaze on him. His bones rattled as he tried his best to avoid Hoseok’s eyes.
Unlike Hoseok, Dr.Moon calmly hummed to herself as she scribbled on the papers.
The questions had to get easier. At least, that’s what Jimin thought. After revealing his sleeping schedule, Jimin internally sighed as he thought the worst question had just passed.
However, Jimin was completely wrong. Each question that Dr.Moon asked became harder and harder for him to answer.
“How many meals a day do you eat?”
“When’s the last time you had a proper meal?”
“How much iron do you intake?”
“Do you drink fluids regularly?”
“Do you exercise? If so, how long and how frequent?”
Each time Jimin would answer with “I don’t know” Dr.Moon would remind him exactly why she was asking these questions. It wasn’t because she was interested in Jimin’s life.
These questions would help her figure out Jimin’s problem. However, that didn’t make it any easier. Hoseok’s grip would loosen with each answer.
Even though Jimin wouldn’t look him in the eyes, he could see Hoseok’s face turn whiter and whiter with each word he muttered.
Finally, Dr.Moon thanked Jimin for his cooperation and left the hospital room. It felt as if he was being interrogated for hours.
With Dr.Moon’s absence, Jimin’s body dropped back into the hospital bed. A loud sigh left his mouth as he squeezed his eyes shut.
“I’m going to get coffee,” Jin stated as he stood up from his chair and exited the room. However, this was just an excuse. Jin knew that Hoseok wanted to be left alone with Jimin.
Judging from Hoseok’s reactions, Hoseok had no idea what Jimin was going through. The couple had a lot of things to talk about and Jin knew they needed privacy for that.
As he closed the door behind himself, Jin could hear Jimin stammer, “B-But there’s al-already two coffee’s he-here.”
Once the pair was alone in the room, a small squeak escaped Jimin’s mouth as he finally made eye contact with Hoseok.
His face held so much pain and confusion, Jimin could feel it seep from all of Hoseok’s pores. The tension in the room was palpable.
However, it wasn’t a tension filled with anger, but a tension filled with worry. Hoseok opened his mouth, but quickly closed it and began to reevaluate what he was about to say.
“When did this start?” Hoseok finally managed to ask. “I don’t know,” Jimin quickly murmured as he kept his gaze on his own hands.
Suddenly, Hoseok picked up Jimin’s chin with his thumb and index finger. This forced Jimin to look at Hoseok. Jimin could see the concern that Hoseok was feeling.
“Please, I want to know,” Hoseok frowned.
After taking a deep breath in, Jimin finally managed to answer Hoseok. “I guess it started when I found out about the competition,” Jimin revealed.
Hoseok’s mouth opened, but he quickly stopped himself. He decided to wait for Jimin to finished talking so that he could fully understand what his beloved was going through.
“I’m not a good dancer and I knew how much this competition meant to you. In order to win I had to improve myself. Sometimes I would stay after dance classes and practice with Chanwoo, but, once we got kicked out of the studio, that drive for improvement soon became anxiety.~
~I would start to notice all my faults and only my faults. Nothing seemed good enough. Without telling you, I started to practice harder and longer. The anxiety I felt for myself soon became anxiety I felt for our relationship.”
Jimin turned his face to the side as he tried to quickly wipe his tears away. He felt his stomach summersault as his heart began to bang against his ribs.
“I thought that I wasn’t good enough for you. Every little thing would scare me. Sometimes you would do things that to normal people would seem, well, normal. However, to me it seemed like an indicator for a looming break-up. I can’t really explain it well, but I felt as if I was expendable.~
~Even when you would tell me you loved me, my mind would find ways to ruin everything. All the fear and anxiety must’ve really gotten to me. I didn’t realize how bad my eating habits were. I just was never hungry, but I didn’t think much about it,” Jimin sighed as he played with the hem of his hospital gown.
Immediately, Hoseok wrapped his arms around Jimin and nuzzled himself on Jimin’s shoulder. Jimin froze as Hoseok unexpectedly embraced him.
Once he realized what was going on, Jimin returned the loving gesture. The two stayed in this euphoric state for what seemed like hours. Hoseok was the first to speak.
“Jimin, I will always love you. Nothing in the world can change that. You are perfect in every single way. You mean way more to me than that stupid competition. Trust me,” Hoseok revealed as his grip tightened.
Jimin felt his cheeks get warm as he repeated Hoseok’s words in his head. He honestly couldn’t believe what he was hearing.
“So, if we lost the competition you wouldn’t be mad?” Jimin murmured as he pushed his face into Hoseok’s neck.
“As long as I have you, I wouldn’t care whether we won or lost,” Hoseok smiled as he began to sprinkle butterfly kisses on Jimin’s neck.
Jimin began to giggle as he felt Hoseok’s soft lips land on his ticklish spots. His fingers pushed through Hoseok’s hair as he tried to pull him away, but Hoseok was stronger.
“Hoseok, Hoseok!” Jimin giggled as his whole body shook with laughter. “What?” Hoseok smiled as his lips traveled along his jawline.
“I love you,” Jimin sang as he wrapped his arms around Hoseok’s neck.
This phrase made Hoseok’s head spring up. He stared deeply into Jimin’s eyes as his heart rate began to accelerate. Suddenly, he saw Jimin’s bright eyes close as his lips pursed up.
Hoseok knew exactly what would come next.
Their lips connected like a puzzle piece as the world around them slowly began to melt. Jimin’s hand began to travel through Hoseok’s hair as Hoseok’s hands grasped Jimin’s waist.
“I didn’t know wha...oh.”
Immediately, Jimin pulled away from Hoseok and became a blinding shade of red. Hoseok smirked as he stared at the embarrassed Jimin.
“Get a room,” Yoongi snickered as he placed down a basket filled with candy.
“They are in a room,” Namjoon corrected as he let go of a bundle of balloons that read “Get Well Soon.”
Yoongi glared at Namjoon and muttered, “Smart a-”
“I saw them hopelessly wandering the halls trying to find your room,” Jin chuckled as he sat back down into his chair with a new cup of coffee in his hand.
Jimin’s doe like eyes shimmered and he began to beam. He wasn’t expecting this many people to show up to the hospital for him.
To be completely honest, he was already surprised enough when he saw Jin here. His heart fluttered like leaves in the wind as he realized that all these wonderful people were here because of him.
Hoseok’s heart skipped a beat as he saw Jimin’s face envelope into a smile. His innocent happiness made Hoseok smile as well. It was truly amazing how happy Jimin could be.
Any little thing made Jimin squeal like a baby. That was Jimin’s charm. He was always smiling and optimistic. Just being near Jimin made him feel euphoric.
That’s also why Hoseok was so shocked that Jimin was secretly in pain. All of the signs were there but he didn’t pay no mind to them. However, now it would be different.
Hoseok would make sure that Jimin was healthy physically and mentally. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for his angel.
“How’d you know where I was?” Jimin giggled as the bridge of his nose turned a beautiful hue of pink. “Namjoon was really worried when I told him you guys wouldn’t be going to practice. He kept pressing me until I gave him a full answer,” Jin revealed.
Jimin’s gaze switched over to Namjoon. Namjoon was rubbing the back of his neck as he was trying to hide his noticeable blush.
Once Namjoon noticed Jimin staring at him, he nearly choked on the air he breathed. It was obvious that Jimin was waiting for Namjoon to elaborate. After his blush disappeared, Namjoon explained exactly what Jin meant.
“Well, you guys are dedicated dancers and work really hard. It wasn’t like you guys to skip practice. If anything you guys would probably come for extra days, not take extra days off. This anxious feeling began to fill me. I just knew something wasn’t right, especially when I heard Jin’s muffled cries.”
Jin spit out his coffee once Namjoon revealed that he was crying. His coughs interrupted Namjoon’s speech. “Hyung!” everyone in the room shouted.
Namjoon and Hoseok ran to Jin and began to pat Jin’s back as he tried to catch his breath. Yoongi was about to run to help Jin, but once he saw Namjoon running he decided to stay back.
Jimin couldn’t run to Jin’s side, because he had a needle in his arm and a clip on his finger. However, he was still equally concerned.
“I’m fine. I’m fine,” Jin sighed as he grabbed the napkins on the counter and began to wipe the coffee off the floor. Jin wasn’t aware that Namjoon had heard him crying through the phone.
He swore that he had covered the phone whenever he felt himself about to cry. Apparently, that wasn’t the case. Of course, he was cleaning the floor because he made a mess, but he was also cleaning the floor to hide his red face from his friends.
“Jin, you were crying for Jimin?” Hoseok questioned. Jin didn’t respond to the question asked. Instead, his ears began to turn a blinding shade of red. Namjoon and Hoseok looked at each other once they saw Jin’s color change.
“Are you embarrassed?” Namjoon asked as he patted Jin’s back. “It’s nothing to be embarrassed about! Men can cry! It’s normal!” Hoseok preached as he waved his finger in the air.
Slowly, Jin’s embarrassment soon turned to anger. He couldn’t believe how oblivious Namjoon and Hoseok were. “Crying isn’t embarrassing,” Namjoon chirped.
That was the last straw. Some people just didn’t know when to drop a subject. Jin clenched the coffee soaked napkins in his hand.
“If someone is embarrassed you don’t ask them if they’re embarrassed! That only makes it worse!” Jin sputtered as he shot up off the ground and faced the duo.
The corners of Namjoon’s and Hoseok’s mouth twitched as they tried their best not to laugh. However, that was a difficult task, especially since Jin looked like an angry tomato. Hoseok’s lips curled upward as he felt a burst of laughter coming.
Suddenly, the silence of the room was broken by Yoongi’s boisterous laughter. Soon after Yoongi, Jimin’s fairy-like giggles also filled the room. Jin’s mouth dropped as his gaze switched between Yoongi and Jimin.
Namjoon’s booming laughter combined with Hoseok’s cartoon-like laughs filled Jin’s ears. Seeing all of his friends laughing somewhat calmed him down. Everyone having a wonderful time together made Jin’s eyebrows unfurrow.
The louder their laughter got, the happier Jin became. Jin’s squeaky laughter soon joined in the orchestra of happiness.
