He stared out at the hectic Street below, sighing as he watched the chaos increase day by day, before returning his attention to the metal bird on his desk. Sparrow was far from being complete.
And the Council was eagerly awaiting it. Percy sighed again, fingering the metal bolts and screws. His father was a great inventor, and everyone had eyes on him following his father's trail.
A knock startled him, although the street full of flying devices caused enough racket to not allow him to sleep for a few days. But his body was on overdrive. He couldn't stop now, nor would he.
"The door's open!" He called hiding his prototype under a sheet. The heavy door swung open, clicking and revving as the machine worked, revealing a face he had longed to see for so long.
Percy grinned as he got up to greet his old friend. But Vienna was far from happy. And she didn't hide it. "What the hell am I hearing that you are designing?" She crossed her arms.
"N-nothing." He gulped, only to have her stare him down. "Just something to better the mailing service. Nothing big." "Nothing big?" She spluttered. "You do realize that the whole Anderland-"
"Yes, I do, and you're not helping." Percy grumbnked, taking the sheet off his device. "Presenting The Sparrow." "Couldn't you have been more original?" She asked, walking around him.
His smile dropped. Vienna raised an eyebrow at him, and he rolled his eyes. "I'm not creative with words." He retorted, sitting down at his desk again. "I can see that."
To be continued......
So this is based on a mixture of science fiction and steam punk. Just a sample.....
