BEFORE YOU READ

Summer sat in front of the fire with tears in her emerald eyes. This is the second time this week that her heart was broken this month. She stared out the window and gazed at the rain.

She had fallen in love with a boy....but that boy used her and betrayed until she could no longer feel anything. She longed to feel the love that would never come.

Maybe it was a cruel joke, or a twist of fate. Whatever it was, Summer was not happy about it at all. She just smiled as her friend Ethan walked into the room. "Hey." she said with a smile.

"Hey Summer, I heard about what happened and I'm sorry. You don't have to put up a wall when you are around me." Ethan sat next to Summer who noticed some scars on his arms.

"What are those?" She asked pointing to the scars. Ethan looked nervous. "This was just a bit of...well..." "A bit of what?" She asked. Ethan drew in a breath and sighed. "Self Harm."

Summer gasped in Surprise. How can a guy so tough hurt him self? "E-Ethan." She stuttered. "What made you do it?" Ethan just gazed at her with a broken grin. "Don't worry. I'm fine."

Ethan looked down. He then looked at Summer and smiled again. " It's interesting," He said tearing up. " How much pain a smile alone can hide."

Summer hugged her friend as Ethan just broke down crying. " Seventeen years I put up with bullies and shit. You were one of the only good things that happened to me." Summer blushed.

Summer's hug tightened. " Ethan... you're thinking of suicide again aren't you?" She Asked concerned. Ethan Nodded as Summer looked in horror. "Ethan..." She whispered before crying.

Ethan thought of the forest near his home, of how Summer and him played Kings and Queens among the vast foliage. The memories calmed him down a bit, but only for a few seconds.

The sight of his friend crying brought him back to earth. He hugged his friend as the rain pounded on the roof. "I am here ok?" He said as if she was his girlfriend. She calmed down a bit.

She was remembering her older sister who died in a car wreck a few years ago... "Ethan I don't want to lose you ever again." She said blushing. "Did you lose me to begin with?" Ethan replied.

The Two of them smiled at each other then Summer kissed Ethan's cheek. Ethan Smiled and kissed back. "Wanna grab a bite to eat?" he asked "Ya." Summer replied. The rain stopped and it was sunny.

They both went to the dinner eager for lunch. "I'll always be there for you." Ethan promised as he smiled and held Summer's hand. The two of them fell in love and all was right in the end.
