Jane and her younger sister Alice were upstairs in their uncle Bill's house rummaging through some old boxes. Bill had recently passed away.

Jane never really got along with her uncle unlike Alice whom he was always kind towards, which she never really understood.

As they were looking through the boxes, Jane spotted an owl that was perched atop the door of the room they were in.

The owl was jet black and looked twice the size of a normal owl. Its talons looked as large as a human's hands.

But what got to Jane the most was when how the owl was staring down at her and ignoring Alice who was still looking through boxes like it was focusing specifically on her for some reason.

And its eyes. Jane thought maybe it was her imagination, but she could've swore the owl was giving her the same angry look her uncle would often give her for no apparent reason.

Right then, the owl swooped down and zeroed in on Jane like a guided missle, flying passed a stunned Alice.

"Oh shit!" Alice shouted. "An owl!"

Jane managed to duck down in time. The owl barely missed her and instead hit some of the boxes.

When the owl swooped down on Jane again, Alice shrieked and ran out of the room, the door slamming shut behind him.

Jane ran to the door and tried to get it open, but it wouldn't budge. It was as if some unseen force was keeping it closed so she couldn't get out.

The owl, meanwhile, was attacking Jane. She could feel its claws in her hair taking out clumps.

Jane screamed as she kept trying to open the door. She could hear Alice also trying to open the door but to no avail.

Finally, just as the owl was about to swoop down on her again, the door swung open and Jane ran out of the room. Alice pushed the door shut so the owl couldn't get out.

Jane nearly tripped as she and Alice ran down the stairs as fast as they could.

They sat at the foot of the stairs trying to catch their breath. That's when their father Tom walked in.

When he saw Jane and Alice sitting at the foot of the stairs looking scared out of their minds, he demanded to know what was going on.

When they told him what had happened with the owl, he went upstairs to look for the owl.

Tom came back downstairs minutes later. He told them that he couldn't find the owl.

Jane never told her father or her sister her belief the owl could have been supernatural.

And Jane never went back into her uncle's house ever again.
