My Current Thoughts On "Trolling" (& Why Social Media AIN'T Social!)

I've posted a piece or two on Commaful about how to deal with trolls. Since then, I have pretty much given up trying to find a "proper" way to deal with trolls online.

Let's face facts, the trolls have all but completely taken over the Internet. In short, the trolls have WON.

The very first social media site I joined was Twitter back in, if memory serves, 2011. I joined Facebook a little while after to get in touch with an old friend.

I would get trolled once in a blue moon, especially on Facebook where I would get trolled by FB "friends". But within the past few years I've noticed trolling overall has amped up.

Now Twitter & Facebook & other "social" media sites have become a cesspool of trolling & toxicity. Again, the trolls have WON.

Some studies have shown how being on social media can cause people to become angrier & even depressed (which I certainly WOULDN'T doubt given my OWN social media experience).

Nowdays one can hardly post a joke or an "unpopular" opinion, especially if it "offends" the PCers who now populate these sites like cockroaches & seemingly get "offended" at the LEAST little thing.

Of course, I've also posted a piece (or two) on Commaful about those who are ALWAYS "outraged" and/or butthurt about something.

Ugh.

I don't mean to sound "defeatist" here, but things have gotten to the point that, if someone asked me if it was a good idea to join social media, I would likely tell them to SKIP it altogether.

And I myself probably wouldn't join social media today other than use it as a way to "promote" my published books. (And, to be honest, it's not even real good at doing THAT.)

I admit I haven't been trolled in a while. That's probably because these trolls/PCers realize that I'm going to post whatever I want regardless if it "offends" their precious sensibilities or NOT.

Of course, I know it's only a matter of time before I get trolled again and, when I do, I'll be READY for the little bastards!

There is ONE site, however, where I haven't been trolled. And that's THIS one. I, of course, had people disagree with some of the things I've posted but there's a HUGE difference between disagreeing & trolling.

So good job, Commaful! Keep up the good work!

As for the other sites, well, I've been called a Nazi by PCers on Twitter & I've been called a Jew by Nazis on Gab-of which I'm neither-so there you go!

It's so nice to be LOVED!
