"Killed By Death" by Motorhead
This was the song that got me listening to Motorhead so of course I'm going to list it first! (R.I.P. Lemmy!)
"Death By Misadventure" by Ted Nugent
This song is from rocker Ted Nugent's classic album Cat Scratch Fever (which also has the, uh-hum, classic tune "Wang Dang Sweet Poontang"!).
"Folsom Prison Blues" by Johnny Cash
This classic song by the late Johnny Cash contains the infamous line: "I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die!"
"Delia's Gone" by Johnny Cash
This is a song about a man obsessed with a prostitute who ends up tying her to a chair and gunning her down. Yeah.
"Cocaine Blues" by George Thorogood
This is actually a remake of a Johnny Cash song by rocker George Thorogood about a guy who shoots a "bad b*tch" down while high on cocaine. Again, yeah.
"Cop Killer" by Ice T & Body Count
This song from the debut album of rapper Ice T's heavy metal group Body Count was SO controversial it eventually got pulled from the album.
"Psycho Killer" by Talking Heads
This was the song that Ice T claimed "influenced" him to write his controversial "Cop Killer" song.
"Excitable Boy" by Warren Zevon
The best way to describe this gruesome song by the late Warren Zevon is to picture Ted Bundy's life story set to music & you'll get an idea as to how this song goes, OK? OK!
"Murder By Numbers" by The Police
I first heard this song in the movie Copycat about a serial killer who uses this song to taunt the police. (Jimmy Swaggart even once called this song "satanic".)
"Suicide Solution" by Ozzy Osbourne
Ozzy was sued a couple of times over this song by parents who claimed it somehow "influenced" their kids to commit suicide (although Ozzy insists it's an ANTI-suicide song).
"Better By You Better Than Me" by Judas Priest
Judas Priest, like Ozzy, was also sued by parents claiming this song "influenced" their son to attempt suicide through so-called subliminal messages. (The parents lost.)
"Forward To Death" by The Dead Kennedys
This was off punk band The Dead Kennedys's album Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables & is about a guy who, and I quote, "don't need this f*ckin' world".
"Mind Of A Lunatic" by Geto Boys
This is another song about a serial killer by "gangsta" rap group Geto Boys that's far more gruesome than the aforesaid Talking Heads "killer" song.
"Don't Fear The Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult
This is one of the most famous "death" songs of all-time by a group who's perhaps best known today as an SNL sketch.
"More cowbell!" indeed!
Oh yeah, I could also list ANY song by "death metal" group Slayer.
And, oh yeah, before I forget, the song "Butterfly Kisses" by some guy nobody remembers.
This song isn't about "death". I just feel like walking into the garage with the engine running every time I hear the damn thing!
Yeah, I know, I'm an "insensitive" A-Hole!
