"Are You Experienced" is the debut album by legendary guitarist the late Jimi Hendrix and his band the Jimi Hendrix Experience, which included Mitch Mitchell on drums and Noel Redding on bass.
Released in 1967, "Are You Experienced" is widely considered one of the greatest debut albums in rock music history.
This album contains some of Jimi's most iconic songs like "Purple Haze" and "Foxey Lady" which have become staples on classic rock radio.
The album was released in the UK with different songs before it was released in the US with equal success.
Not only was the album both a commercial & critical success, as many music critics have noted, the album also expanded the boundaries of the electric guitar or, as Guitar World put it, "a veritable textbook of what a musician can do with his instrument".
Sadly, Jimi Hendrix passed away only a few years after the release of his iconic debut in 1971, having released three more albums since, including his classic double album "Electric Ladyland" (which initially featured a group of nude women on the cover!).
This, of course, doesn't include his legendary performance at the Woodstock music festival where he performed his classic-and controversial-rendition of the Star Spangled Banner.
But I think it's fair to say that Jimi Hendrix did more to change music in those few short years than it takes other musicians far more time to accomplish.
As I believe I've also noted a time or two, Jimi Hendrix is one of my favorite guitarists of all-time and was a great influence on my own guitar playing (even though, unlike Jimi, I've never actually burned one of my guitars!).
Oh, one more thing about "Are You Experienced": The title track features a "backwards" guitar solo. (No kidding!)
