Walls

by tatianadantes

I am surrounded by barriers.

But not to just protect myself from the cruel world and feelings.

But to save you from knowing the true me.

The me you'd call fucked up.

The me you'd call a mess.

The me that I don't see strong.

My barriers are to shield me from the things that hurt.

My barriers come with guards.

And my guards come with shields.

And we all live under a dome.

This...ugh...no words. I relate to this so much. But there is a freedom in letting those walls crumble a little bit. You might see yourself as a mess, and maybe you are, but aren't we all? And I think that those messes make us human. A truly brilliant poem. Thank you.

This was pretty dystopic. It reminds me of something popular in my day. When you broke up with someone, you would say, "Babe it's not you, it's me." We have these layers and levels of barriers with different entry requirements for each level of defense. If we are not careful, we will lock ourselves out. Great poem!!!

Love this peace we all build walls to protect ourselves but sometimes we build the walls so strong that we can no longer let love and life in
