It is easy to complicate things.

To make a short story a much longer story

As time has continued to tick by

I have noticed a great need for bluntness. For cutting to the chase.

Too often I find myself restrained

Held back by inhibitions and fears and impractical tact

I am poignantly reminded that life is fleeting .

While discussions and fretting can eat away at my time here, I often forget the most important part:

To learn and to read.

To admire great works of art.

To follow dreams, to listen to the soul;

To embrace the tired heart.

Tatcat, I love your way of thinking. This was a truth that is often ignored. You worded it beautifully. When in my youth I was subject to these droners who went on and on. I used to say "Is this going to be a short story or a novel?" People eventually stopped giving me the long version. Great job!!!!!
