Best friend : someone who's always there for you, someone who always supports you, someone who loves you, someone who warms you.
I too have a best friend. His name is Berry. Berry is the cutest thing to exist in the entire universe.
He has a red nose, brown hair, big round eyes and is covered in small yellow and blue stars. Yes, you're right. He isn't a human, he's my sock.
Berry came to my life as a gift for my fourth birthday. He, along with his twin brother Bunny, was given to me by my aunt, Mary. We were together all the time.
I had always had a problem while making friends and socializing with so called humans, so they had become my only friends. I was a human too but still somehow humans scared me.
The only humans I was comfortable with was my mother and Aunt Mary.
Two years had passed since they had come to my life. It was my sixth birthday. My mom was preparing my favorite apple pie for dinner. I had just finished washing Bunny and Berry.
I put them on a rack in a lawn and went in the kitchen. From the kitchen window I could see them drying in the sun when suddenly Bunny fell to the ground.
Our of nowhere, a rabbit came, took Bunny in its mouth and hopped away. We never saw Bunny again. That's how we lost Bunny to a...... well bunny.
I am eleven years old now, still with no human friends. Today is the day I've been dreading as well as dreaming.
Yes, the art competition for which I've been preparing since last Christmas was finally here.
"Honey, let's go", my mom called. I get up, put Berry in my pocket, picked up my art supplies bag and move towards the car.
I stared at the ruined painting infront of me. The painting I'd been working on for the last forty five minutes had become nothing more than a paper on which coloured water had spilled.
My eyes moved all over the ruined painting, the colours and then finally landed on Berry, who had been peeking out of my jacket lying on the floor.
Looking at Berry, I remembered all the conversation I had with him about this competition.
My hopes, my dreams, my talent, the countless hours I'd spent practicing, seemed to reflect back from his eyes urging me to not give up. Suddenly, I felt myself fill with new-found confidence.
I asked for another paper and started working.
"Smile, sweetie", my mom said while fumbling with the camera. I stood awkwardly holding a certificate and a bronze medal around my neck.
After ages, my mom was finally happy with the photo and we started moving towards the car.
"Congratulations!! You were awesome!" ,a girl's voice said. I turned back and saw a girl of around my age smiling brightly at me. She was dressed in a white frock and brown ballet shoes.
"Thanks" , I managed to say.
"Welcome", she said still smiling "I am Eva. Let's be friends?"
I stared at her for a few seconds.
"I am Brian", I said smiling, surprising both my mom and myself.
That's how I made the third friend of my life, all thanks to my buddy, Berry.
