The story of how I joined LinkedIn in high school

Be different. Be right.

When I got a LinkedIn in high school

When I was in high school, I got a LinkedIn

In 2011, when everybody at my school was warming into Facebook more, I got a LinkedIn

My friends thought I was ridiculous

LinkedIn isn't cool. Why would anybody need that?

Frankly, I didn't know what I was doing

I saw some smart people going there. So I went too.

I found that it accelerated my learning.

LinkedIn Question/Answer became my home. I met professionals, learned how to hack school, and steps I needed to take to become successful from the best in the industry

I got my first mentors through LinkedIn.

In fact, I probably wouldn't have found an interest in tech had I not taken that first ridiculous step.

4 years later

More than half of those friends who laughed at me have joined LinkedIn. The value I have obtained by being early to LinkedIn has been amazing.

To this day I remain a LinkedIn Power User

I took my bet. And I learned from it.

Finging mentors is such a difficult thing. I was unable to do so even through college but now I am just starting to understand it.
