Ever since that last tree was cut down in 2987 to be transported to the lucky ones in the sky, humanity has been trying to find a way to reproduce oxygen.
Though, without the ability to recreate oxygen, the sky inhabitants will not be able to survive in the sky, nor will we be able to survive on the ground, which touches upon what my job is.
I am on the Rediscovery of Breathable Oxygen committee more commonly known as the R.B.O. The R.B.O is an elite committee, only welcome to the brightest and most acute minded.
Our objective is to discover a way to recreate oxygen without the aid of trees. A few decades ago, we had trees, shrubs, and flowers made out of recycled materials.
This was used to give the streets a joyful look to them. Though, soon after, we had to melt them down to be used for more important objects such as wrist chips.
After spending at least fifteen minutes in bed, I decided that I had had enough time to wake up and should begin my day.
I then proceeded to rise from my 3D printed bed and groggily began to walk towards my uniform.
As I was putting my foot through the pant leg, I received a message from my best friend, Lucy, through the monitor in front of my bed.
As our tradition demands, Lucy asked, “Do you want to walk with me to The Office today?”
I waited a few minutes to let the suspense build, and then responded with, “Well, today might as well not be the day that we break a twenty year tradition.”
“I figured as much,” she typed back, “What flavor of vitamin juice would you like?”
I of course answered with, “Extra protein, as usual.”
“I figured as much.”, Lucy typed for my amusement.
“So, what time are you walking over?”, I questioned.
“You know the answer”, Lucy stated.
And that I did.
