On the lasting scars of imperialism and injustice across the world.

Foundation

(Preface) With what is happening in the United States currently, I wanted to write a piece on the lasting trauma of imperialism. This piece is about injustices across the world that continue to this day, including those that continued to get silenced and not talked about enough to this day.

Remember that many have resisted oppression, racism, and injustice. They are not simply victims: they are neighbours, co-workers, teachers, and so much more. Many of you that write poems and speak up are heroes.

Also, the song JU$T by Run the Jewels ft. Zack De La Rocha (from Rage Against the Machine) and Pharrell Williams inspired parts of this piece. It's a rap song and very explicit so keep that in mind if you are interested in listening. It's from their latest album, RTJ4.

Remember, too, to always listen, be open-minded, and to not fight fire with fire.

Time creeps in an hourglass of bonfires birthed

Time creeps in an hourglass of bonfires birthed by veins drained in chains of history,

Time creeps in an hourglass of bonfires birthed by veins drained in chains of history, blood drained and swallowed for their foundation –

(they say it was for the greater good)

(they say it was for the greater good) (they say you didn’t fight in their wars)

(they say it was for the greater good) (they say you didn’t fight in their wars) (they say the tyrants fit on their dollars)

yet, you have never been truly drained.

Your voice is a resistance in an endless hourglass,

Your voice is a resistance in an endless hourglass, one to be cracked by the chorus and choir of

Your voice is a resistance in an endless hourglass, one to be cracked by the chorus and choir of tomorrow.
