It is said to see the forest beyond the trees
This is wonderful advice
But I follow this a little too well
Sometimes I wish to think smaller
Focus on a singular tree
Bring my attention to its bark
Gently graze my fingertips over the rough surface
Then look up to see which branches are hiding the sun
Slowly make my way around balancing on its roots
Take note of the colored leaves that fell
Then look back up to compare each hue that remains
If only I could zero in on such detail
Let the slim perspective offset the weight
Just for a minute or two
