{Huening Kai}

{Huening Kai} Kai wakes up at 8:20 am.

He yawed with an irritated frown and even sniffed the air to feel the lousy Monday.

Kai groaned as he sat up from the bed, dangling his ankles to the side.

{Kitchen} Meanwhile mom was making breakfast for an early start.

Tuesday was a special moment. Huening Kai is flying to Chicago for his decree. Today is Monday.

Tomorrow is finally the day that he peruses his dream as a deaf Korean boy, in America.

...Teaching American kids.

This bothered mother.

This really bothered mother. But she had the greatest positive and faithful mind, nothing took power over it.

{Bathroom} Kai finally stood out of bed as he dragged his feet along the floor.

He stripped naked and took a warm shower to wake himself up. After that, he got dressed.

He went to his moms room and searched in the wardrobe as he dried his soaking wet hair.

He always curled it after waking up bright and early.

When Kai was in elementary school, he had a ton of hair.

Not only enable to hear, Kai's hair was his man insecurity wile being young.

One day, Kai was so mad about it, he said something fowl to mom that made her so angry. She never meant to but ...

She hit him...

{ 11 years ago } Date: 5/14/ 2009

Kai speed walked off the bus and ran towards his house.

He opened the door, slammed his backpack on the sofa as he stormed to the bathroom.

Mom was reading one of her favorite cookbooks. She saw Kai run down the hall.

{Young Kai's thoughts} " I can't anymore..."

He reached under the sink for a pair of silver scissors and stood in the mirror.

{Mom} She stood outside the door with a disappoint frown.

Mom twisted the door knob and walked inside the bathroom.

Kai dropped the scissors in the sink and glared at his mom.

{ Mom signing} Don't give me that look. What do you think you're doing?

{ Kai signing } I can't go back to school and look at myself in the mirror with hair like mine!

{Mom signing} What's wrong with your hair sweetheart? I see nothing.

{Kai signing} Stop lying to me! Just because you're my mom doesn't mean you have to complement everything about me!

Kai picked up the scissors and forced them to his hair. He teared up in the mirror.

Mom covered her hand over her mouth. She ran to her son and pulled them out of his small pasty hand.

Kai screamed, rapidly yanking them away from her. But mom was too strong.

She tossed the scissors on the floor and wildly swung Kai in her arms to control him.

The little boy tried with all his useless might to run away. It was even more frustrating.

He bawled his fists and yelled,

"Get the fuck of ME!"

Mom gasped. She flipped Kai around and slapped him.

A large whip pasted across his cheek like he had gotten his face ran over by a bicycle.

Kai turned his lips upside up and let out small whimpers . Mothers heart dropped.

Her eyes enlarged like frying pans. Without hesitation she hugged Kai to her breast and rocked him back and forth.

{ Mom speaking} "Oh honey, Mommy's sorry!"

She teared up as she continued rocking Kai in a tight hug.

Kai removed his face from her chest and whipped his tear.

{Mom signing} "Kai Kai, are you okay!?"

{Mom signing} "Forgive mommy!"

Kai nodded and sniffled his mucus back down his nostrils.

Mom smiled and picked Kai up by his fragile ribs.

She sat him on the sink and pulled out a clear bag with hair equipment.

She unfolded it like newspaper. A black curling iron slid out of a large pocket.

Mom plugged the irons into the wall and sat them on top of the sink as she waited for them to steam.

{Mom sighning} Lean forward. (She grabbed the hot irons.)

Kai stared at his mother with a dumbfounded sneer.

He relaxed his legs and leaned forward then mom did the rest.

{ 12 minutes later} She covered Kai's eyes and walked him down the hallway.

They stopped at a circular mirror on the wall.

As soon as she picked him up, Kai was desperate to open his eyes, like a child would be to open a Christmas gift.

Kai's browse furrowed in fascination. He never saw himself to look so pretty.

He had fine brown locks all over his head. He could still feel the warm heat on his scalp.

Mom smiled and pressed her chin on Kai's shoulder as she stared at him in the mirror.

{ Mom signing } "Baby. You are gorgeous. "

{ Mom signing } "Even if you don't feel handsome you are handsome."

{ Mom signing } "You're my son and I wouldn't tell you a lie to make you feel loved."

{ Kai signing } "I love you mommy."

Kai spined around and secured his mom's neck tightly. She smiled and kissed his head, spinning young Kai in her arms.

And ever since 4th grade till collage, he loves his hair kinked.

{Reality}

He shuffled through all the clothes and drawers. He finally gave up and tossed his body on the floor as he ran both palms through his roots.

{Kai's thoughts} "The hell? Where are they?!"

He rolled his eyeballs in the back of his head as he marched downstairs.

{Living room}

He scavenger hunted under the sofa and behind every china cabinet mom owned.

He even searched behind the drapes because he recalled seeing Yongmin chewing them.

Kai groaned like a dinosuar which caught mom's attentions. She walked in the living room.

Kai's head was shoved his the couch while he moaned.

Mom sat her oven mitts on the arm of the couch and tapped his shoulder. He swooped his head up.

{ Mom signing } "You need the curling irons?"

{ Kai signing } "Do you have them?"

Mom pointed to the hallway. Kai stood up and stormed to the downstairs bathroom.

He opened the mirror and pulled out the irons, hugging them like they were worth more than his life.

Mom followed behind him she shook her head and sighed.

{Mom sighning} Baby, when are you gonna relies you are astonishing without curls my darling.

Kai ignored mom as he plugged the irons, impatiently waiting for them to steam.

{Mom sighning} I want you to lay those off for a while. With all that heat, your hair is gonna fall out honey!

{Kai sighning} I used your curlers yesterday! See, I don't use the irons all the time mom.

She dropped her head and smiled, nodding.

{Mom signing} I'm gonna go finish cooking. Tomorrow is the final day you leave me.

{Mom signing} So I'm gonna make a bunch!

{Kai signing} I'll be out in a minute to help you. I have to get dressed.

Mom left the bathroom. Kai walked to the door and shut it. His phone rang in his pocket.

He felt the vibration on his hip. It was dad....surprisingly.

Kai rolled his eyes and answered impatiently.

{Kai speaking} "I can't hear you. Text me."

{Dad's line} "Oh yeah!" Dad akwardly hung up and messaged Kai.

*Kai has blocked Oppa.*

Kai threw his phone across the floor and slid his back down the wall.

He hugged his legs to his chin as his head rested on top of his knees. Kai bellowed softly, so that mom wouldn't hear him.

Dad was a a deceiver. Why couldn't he fess up about why he really left? It made no scence.

{ 10 minutes later } Kai went downstairs and sat down at the counter.

Mom was at the stove, frying spam and eggs. Her phone rang on the counter. She picked it up and answered it.

"What do you want?" She said. Kai furrowed his eyes as he focused on moms pink lips.

He wanted to read everything because she answered the phone unusually.

Mom glanced at Kai and then back at the window behind him.

{Mom} "No... he's fine." she mumbled turning back to the stove.

{Mom} "How would you know? You're never here to support him."

{Mom} "I'm busy right now. Call me back in an hour."

Mom sat her phone down and shook her head as she flipped the meat.

Kai sighed, resting his cheek on the counter tip.

Mom turned around and smiled. She placed a glass plate in front of Kai's face. She playfuly ruffled his hair.

{Mom signing} It's so curly today. You hungry?

Kai nodded and placed his head back on the hard marble.

She scooped four fried pieces of spam and two fried eggs onto Kai's plate.

Kai lifted his head and smiled. His mothers cooking was the greatest. It always made his spirit flutter.

Mom pulled out a stool from under the counter and sat across from her son.

{ Kai sighing } "You're not gonna eat?"

{ Mom signing } "I ate granola and milk."

Kai giggled as he played with his fork.

{ Kai signing } "That isn't a meal mom. When are you gonna actually eat?"

{ Mom signing } "When I get an apatite. Not now tho Kai." She sighed.

"Ring, Ring!"

Mom jerked back. Kai looked at her weirdly as he nibbled a juicy piece of spam.

"Damn I gotta get that fixed." She whined, standing from the kitchen counter.

"Ring, Ring!" It went again. Mom huffed, brushing her messy hands on her blue apron.

She quickly walked to the door and opened it.

She rolled her eyes and stood at the door with a blank expression.

{ Mom } "I thaught I told you I was busy. What are you doing Nabil?"

{ Dad } "Hey. I just wanted to see him."
