Sleepless

by shadowedechoes

I lie wide awake,

night after night,

Lost in my thoughts,

the hopeless insomniac.

What do I think about,

you ask.

Everything.

I picture myself in the future,

I recreate my past.

I make fantasies

living dreams and nightmares.

I face reality,

concentrating on what happened that day, this week, these months.

I think about the most random things,

relevant or irrelevant.

Then I close my eyes,

Praying I fall asleep

@Sydney It is in fact not uncommon. http://www.businessinside... . Early in my freshman year of high school, I discussed this with my Granddad. He advised me to keep a notebook by my bedside and jot down all my thoughts and ideas through my waking hours during the night and to read and jot down ideas from what I read. Further, he said if I was having trouble sleeping when I was actually tired to think of what was bothering me. If I could do nothing about a particular problem for the next three days, toss it out. If I could to something the problem, formulate my plan and jot the plan down and do it when I woke up. Later, I would write a novel in my head instead of being struggling to sleep. I would drift off somewhere in some chapter. Then I would take up in the last place I remembered and continue the novel. Be sure to hit that link. You will be amazed. I was not the craziest of the bunch. ADHD has a lot to do with it.

I am 72. Until I was 60ish I always slept for 2-3 hours a night. I would take occasional cat naps through the day. A friend in high school pointed out that if you sleep 8 hrs a day, by the time you are 60 you will have slept 20 yrs the same as Rip Van Winkle/ Sleep is necessary but, overrated. You are destined for great things. http://www.businessinside...
