If I had a penny for every mismatched thought that runs through my mind Running like the river, strong and high with violent tides and then I,

Beggar

If I had a penny for every mismatched thought that runs through my mind

Running like the river, strong and high with violent tides and then I,

I wouldn't be a beggar, or see the cobbled streets

of smoke tainted cities beneath my worn-down feet

I would stand on marble , a cracked cream surface

I would be an eagle, and have a higher purpose

Than extending my hand and grasping loose change

Other than the looks of pity and contempt sent my way

I would have the road before me lined and paved

I would walk in velvet slippers so my feet don't rot and decay

I wouldn't join with the pigeons I would stare at them in disgust

If only I had a fountain so bottomless

But tell me what I am

Knock me down a peg

all i'll ever be

is two hands made to beg
