The Box

My eyes peeled open slowly. Around me was a dim-lit room surrounded by concrete.

I tried to stand up but my arms and legs were strapped to the chair behind me, I tried to shout but like my hands and legs, my mouth was gagged.

I wriggled and moved but nothing would break the bond between my hands and the chair. It was no use, I was stuck.

Suddenly lights blinded me from above, I looked up but soon realized that was a bad mistake. Next to me, I saw a hole in the floor, circular like a tube.

I heard some ear-deafening noises, and that was when I saw him. Rising up through the tube next next to me, in the exact same clothes as me.

It was never really until now that I realized I wasn't wearing normal clothes. I was wearing a jump suit. Soon my mind switched back to him the boy next now next to me.

He was vaguely familiar, but I couldn't recognise him. Oh no! It was my younger brother.

I started hopping my chair towards his, frantically wanting to get him out of his cuffs! But, now came the worst part. A green light flashed on the dirty, mud-treaded.

That was when I noticed the spread out grids on the floor, and the giant 32 on the wall. But what did it all mean.

The noise shattered my confidences of us coming out alive, it was coming from the grids, I tried harder now to get my brother out of the chair!

The first layer of water came out of the grid as soon as I had broken my brothers bond from the chair. It was rising. Very fast. We had no time to try and escape.

I soon got one of my cuffs off a lot quicker than my brothers, I scanned around while trying to do my other one. There was no windows or doors, nothing.

I tried to weigh up our chances of living, pretty much none. We were just going have to stay in this grubby room and drown to death.

The water was now at our ankles and we hadn't got out of our leg-cuffs so we rushed to get to our feet and pulled the cuff off.

When the water came over the brim of my socks, it burned and gave me blisters but it wasn't hot. I was confused but now I wondered, are my socks waterproof.

My blisters were now painful and itchy.

The water was rising to my waist now, I could feel my brain falling sleepy and my body was shaking from the pain, the walls looked like they were closing in but it was just a hallucination.

I feel dizzy and my head is hot but I keep living. The walls closing in hallucination keeps happening, now I believe it, now I can see the walls are actually slowly closing in.

The water is rising faster now, I feel my feet lift off the ground, the smell of the water was rancid, it filled your nostrils with sourness and stung your insides,

I looked up to see how far the roof was. Oh no. The water has nearly pushed us up against it.

I come back to my senses and remember my brother, he had undone his cuffs and was looking in more pain than me.

It wasn't long until the water was at head height. My brother and I were now shoulder to shoulder with walls close-up on each side.

We both realized at the same point that soon, we would take our last breathe. We hugged tight and waited for the water to swallow us.

I pushed our heads against the roof to try and survive as long as possible, but it was no use, my head was now fully submerged with water and I could not think properly.

That was when the thought came to me, who would want to kill us that badly? Who would hate us so much that they would want to kill us?

My thoughts now gone, my life started flashing before me like cars on a busy street, you see them coming but they never stay long enough. I took a breath under the water but soon regretted it.

I had forgotten I was in water. This was it, my last few seconds. Was my life worth it?
