As Febe and Phoebe laughed with the rest of the Hunters of Artemis, their leaders were having a different, more serious conversation.
“Artemis, do you know how many BOYS are in and around those places?” Thalia hissed the question, and said the word ‘boys’ like it were a dead snake she was forced to dissect.
“We already have more contact with boys than any of us would like, except for maybe YOU!” Artemis angrily answered.
“They’re like my brothers-and one of them IS my brother!” Thalia protested.
“Well, they aren’t like brothers to the rest of us!” Artemis scolded her.
“If we call ourselves ‘Sisters,’ then shouldn’t we share brothers, too?” Thalia asked.
“How many Hunters do we have?” Artemis asked.
“Twenty... gods, I’m sorry, my lady!” Thalia blushed.
“We need more, and high school is a great place to look!” Artemis told her.
Artemis stepped out of the tent and into the clearing. All conversation stopped.
“My Hunters, I have a new quest for you!”
Cheers spasmed through the clearing, but Thalia didn’t join in.
“To mortal high school, to recruit more Hunters!” She continued.
The cheers stopped.
