Ravi Melwani on the Art of Happiness!

Serious, preoccupied and stressed faces are what we usually see. Despite wanting to be happy, most of us aren't.

Why is that? How can such a universal craving elude most of us?

We can talk about wanting to be happy or how miserable our life is, yet not many of us consciously make an effort to be happy or change ourselves so that we can live with joy and laughter.

Ravi Melwani, one of the most successful entrepreneurs in India, also an inspirational writer, speaker, poet, philosopher,

philanthropist shares secrets of how we can be happy in his popular book, 'I Wanna Be Happy!'

Happiness, according to Ravi Melwani, can be attained if we follow six simple steps. The first step is the desire to be happy - one must want to be happy.

One must acknowledge and accept that one is unhappy and subsequently, strive to want to change that. Next comes self awareness or an understanding of oneself.

What is it that makes us happy? Each one of us is bound to come up with different answers. It could be singing for someone or reading for someone else.

Someone may feel happy playing sports or walking early morning.

Regardless, it's important to discover those little things that bring us joy, for if we don't even know what makes us happy, can we, at all, be happy?

The third step to being happy is actually doing those things that bring us happiness. Making a note of them is certainly not enough. We need to do those things.

The fourth step, according to Ravi Melwani, is eliminating negative energies from our life - joy stealers as he calls them.

Whether it's anger, jealousy or worry, we must make a deliberate effort to turn away from such emotions. They do us little good. He often asks people why they take life so seriously.

Ravi Melwani also discusses the role faith and hope play in our lives when we experience sorrow. Of course, feeling sadness is

natural but we must not linger in misery for long. We must come out of it using these two pillars of strength - faith and hope.

Ravi Melwani also explains that acts of kindness and helping people, or spreading happiness undoubtedly helps us to be happy.

Finally, we must understand that happiness is a choice and we can never be happy, unless we choose to be happy.

As Ravi Melwani says, "If you make up your mind to be happy, no one can steal the joy from your heart, and smile from your face.

" He reminds us that happiness is not a destination but the journey itself. Simple enough, isn't it? All we need to do is to put all this into action.

Ravi Melwani's own effusive cheerfulness and positivity rubs on to other people and shows that these little 'tricks of the trade' surely work!
