“He likes you too.” I was very surprised by his response and honestly, I didn’t believe him. “So you don’t have to be embarrassed about it,” Jeremy said, “He talks about you all the time, he even said he wants to date you.”
I could feel my face getting hot. I told him to not say anything to Gavin, and he agreed. Gavin came back outside, and all three of us continued walking again. We were all bored, so I brought up the idea to play truth or dare, so we played that. But I soon regretted it because of the events that occurred shortly after.
Against my better judgment, the three of us went inside Jeremy's house and continued our game. It quickly took a turn for the worst when me and Jeremy started arguing over something utterly ridiculous.
“If you don’t shut the hell up, I’m going to tell Gavin what you told me earlier,” Jeremy said, a noticeable smirk on his face. “What’s going on?” , Gavin asked, the confusion evident on his face. “It’s nothing,” I quickly said to Gavin. I then turned to Jeremy and said, “Go ahead and say it, I dare you.”
At first, I did not believe he would say anything, but I was wrong. Jeremy then turned to Gavin and said the words he promised me he would not say: “Gavin, (my name) likes you.”
I distinctly remember the sudden burning sensation on my face and the nauseating feeling of my stomach dropping. When I turned to Gavin, his eyes were wide and he was staring at me. My first reaction was to run back to my house and cry but instead, I ran into the bathroom and slammed the door.
I put my back towards the door and fell to my knees. I was in a state of panic and shock. I was horrified and close to tears, I thought, “I ruined everything...he hates me now. He probably thinks I’m weird.” But suddenly I quit panicking and worrying over what could happen and thought, “If he was really my friend, then he wouldn’t care.” So I got up, opened the door, and marched into Jeremy’s room.
After a few minutes, an argument between me and Jeremy broke out for the second time that day and was stopped by Destiny. I do not exactly remember what the fight was about, but I remember walking out the door shortly after. I stopped at the mailbox, tears in my eyes. Suddenly I looked back and saw Gavin walking toward me.
“I’m so sorry about that, I didn’t want to tell you how I felt yet because I’m sure you probably don’t feel the same about me.” “Hey, you want to know something funny?” “What?” “I like you too.”
I couldn’t believe what I just heard, but I didn’t mind, because I was happy. When I had to go back inside later that evening, I asked Gavin if we were together, and he said yes. I was still a little angry with Jeremy because he did not listen to me and did what I asked him not to do, but I was relieved because if it wasn’t for him being a fool and telling Gavin, I would have never told him myself.
