A little piece based off a quote from Confucius. Hope you enjoy it :)

The Greatest Challenge

Dawn approached with its magnetic charm Raging its monologue through the room

No magnetism descending upon his tired eyes though His vision can only conjure various shades of black

Deep in his thoughts does the demon tantalise Whispering falsehoods that cannot be ignored

A void of tangled echoes scream from under the sheets Desperately he tries to pull off the covers

The dialogue between brain and hand, interrupted by emotion Tick tock, tick tock, the clock keeps ticking

He knows he has to rise, but rising is not in him As hard as he tries the demon keeps him locked down

Looped messages playing continuously in his head The barge of the damned is where he believes he belongs

Curled up in a ball on the bed that is now renamed home All the world is a terrifying place to dwell

For him there is no point in making an effort But he knows that he must no matter what the cost

In the contorted perspective of his self-worth And the blurred vision of his place in this realm

He manages to release himself from the clutches of the sheets And takes baby's first steps towards the bathroom

A bathroom that seems like an eternity away With every fibre of his being he forces the way

Until he finally reaches and looks in the mirror Who is this wretch of a man? He wonders

As he picks up the toothbrush and begins brushing his teeth He looks back in to the mirror and sees a trace of a smile

'Tis time for the mask and to step outside Adorn the world with the fakest of all smiles While an unyielding hurricane devastates the inside!

“The man who moves a mountain begins by carrying away small stones.” - Confucius
