A couple of pieces on the daily word prompt “Sidewalk “. General themes on the artificial or “fake” quality some social groups can take on .

Sidewalk.

I walk down the sidewalk.

Side talking sideways but always the wrong way.

I try not to step on the cracks as I tread lightly, deliberately.

But that doesn’t mean the cracks don’t show, over and over.

Sidewalk.

Pressure keeps the heart-lock, mind just draws chalk outline, a soul mock.

Gotta check the time clock for the social stop, when can I take stock, not feel locked out, I’m hopped-down, feeling like the group clown.

But they don’t know, I can’t frown. Can’t let them down.

Sidewalk.

Sidewalk. Fake smile.

Tick tock.

Tick tock. On trial.

I see them.

I see them. They see me.

We call them friend.

We call them friend. So the judgment’s free.

But together we still talk,

But together we still talk, Down this sidewalk.
