Still

by nyssa96

And I sat on his front porch, watched the sun and the stars appear and disappear.

I kept tapping on his window, I kept knocking on his door.

I peaked through the glass and saw his longer hair

but he still takes his coffee black, still leaves the big light on when he sleeps.

He still puts on his left sock first and still plays the same Cigarettes After Sex vinyl when he writes.

He still hangs his dirty clothes on that three-legged chair, still hates the smell of wine and still has the same cheeky smile.

Mother says my best quality is patience

and so I sat on his front porch, watched the sun and the stars appear and disappear.

I kept tapping on his window, I kept knocking on his door.

I kept asking for my heart back

but of course

he still plays his music too loud.

A heart once given can never be taken back even if they leave or die or you end up hating the person a part of your heart will always stay with them and they will always share a small corner of your mind

This was excellent. You were able to narrowly view one behavior and describe it to perfection. Great poem!!!
