Amelia is gone for about 5 minutes before anyone notices she's gone. Honestly, that's a new record for us. Normally it would be about 10 minutes.
But anyways, Brenda was in mid-sentence when she just stops, looks around, and says, "Where's Amelia?"
Everyone looks around and a whisper slowly begins in the crowd. It's about 2 times bigger now, random strangers have joined us.
The strangers don't know who Amelia is, but they still glance around to appear like they're looking.
Two girls (I never learned their names) step forward. One, a skinny, tan teenager with bright blonde hair and freckles dotting her face, is the one that talks.
"Diane and I could go look for her."
Harriet shakes her head. "Thank you, Ellie, but we can't afford to lose anyone else in the group to that crowd."
Ellie looks almost disappointed, where as Diane, a short, curvy girl with pale skin and dark brown hair, looks relieved. The two sink back into the crowd.
Harriet nudges Brenda, indicating that she should continue. Brenda shakes her head and says, "We should wait for her."
"No, we shouldn't. We have no idea where that girl might be. She could be dead for all we know. Just... continue. Please."
Brenda opens her mouth to continue, but instead of her speech, her eyes light up and she shouts, "Amelia!"
The entire crowd turns, even those who don't know her, to look at Amelia bounding through the crowd.
"Where the bloody hell have you been?!" Sonya asks, more like screams at, Amelia. Again with those motherly instincts. But if there was a response, I don't hear it.
Because following Amelia is the boy I've tried so hard to find, but without success.
"Tom!" I shout and run towards him. I pull him into a huge hug, him not knowing what's going on at first, but then hugging me back.
We stand like this for a while, not caring how many people are probably watching us.
Finally, I pull away from him. "Where were you? I looked all over!" I ask. But before he can open his mouth to respond, Brenda pushes me aside and give him a huge kiss. On the lips.
I stare for about a minute, too shocked to move. Then they finally break away, Tom with a guilty look on his face, Brenda with a smug expression on hers.
I look between the two, confused. "Teresa... it's not-"
"No. We have bigger things to focus on right now. Come find me later to talk about your excuses." I say. Then I turn and disappear into the crowd.
Thomas and I stand and watch Teresa walk away.
"Bitch." I say, crossing my arms. Thomas turns to me, his face full of anger.
"What the hell was that for?" He shouts. I back up, surprised. I wasn't expecting him to be this angry.
"What was what for?" I ask.
"You think I want Teresa mad at me? Now I have to explain myself!"
"I didn't think it mattered. It's not like she's your girlfriend! And you can't pretend that there's nothing between you and I." He stares at me for a second, then looks away.
"You're right. I can't pretend there's not something there if there really isn't." He says, and walks away, leaving me confused, standing in the middle of the crowd.
