The word volcano originally comes from the name of the Roman god of fire, Vulcan.

A volcano is a land form (usually a mountain) where molten rock erupts though the surface of the planet.

In simple terms a volcano is a mountain that opens downward to a pool of molten rocks (magma) below the surface of the earth.

It is a hole in the earth from which molten rock and gas erupt.

There are more then 1500 active volcanoes on earth.

We currently know of 80 or more which are under the oceans.

Lava cools slowly because lava is a poor conductor of heat.
