"Hey I realised we've never gotten to know each other's favourites and stuff." I said.
My head was resting in his lap, and I was lying down on the grass.
"Like my favourite song or something?" He chuckled.
"Yeah, like that." I smiled.
"Alright, but I'm asking you first." He said. "Favourite...book genre?"
"Fantasy." I said. "What about you?"
"Realistic fiction, historical fiction, somewhere in that realm." He answered.
"Ok my turn. Favourite movie or series?" I asked.
"Definitely 'A Silent Voice.' I still cry thinking about it." Eli laughed. "And you?"
"The Maze Runner trilogy." I said.
"Favourite singer?" He said.
We went on like that for a while, and it was fun to learn things about him. We realised what we had in common and what we didn't.
Sakura crossed my mind a few times but I didn't feel that sad about it.
Sakura would have wanted me to be happy, right? I don't know what she thought of happiness but I did know she thought simply.
"If big brother isn't sad, I'm not sad."
She'd said that to me once. I'd try to live by it.
I was still on Eli's lap while he was talking about the things he was passionate about, studying his face, in a way.
The shape of his jaw, the expressions he makes while describing a character he hates, the bags under his eyes because of school and probably me.
Why had I never noticed how hard he was working? I mean, he was an artist, straight-A student, healthy, caring, generous, and loyal. I took his hand in mine without realising it.
He didn't tense up or anything, and welcomed it.
I felt like there was something I had to tell him but I couldn't figure out what it was.
"When's your birthday by the way?" He asked out of nowhere.
"Oh, February 28th." I replied. "You?"
"Mine's on the 12th of May." He said. "I feel like there's some great meaning behind you."
"What the hell is that supposed to mean?" I sat up, facing him.
"Like you, your name, your eyes, your personality, I don't really know." Eli explained.
"I kind of feel the same way for you." I said.
"Like there's something missing?" He edged on.
"Something that needs to blossom?" I leaned in.
"Yeah!" We said at the same time, falling back a little.
I flopped on the ground, him right next to me. "Well if it's the same we'll figure it out together."
"Together?" He took my hand.
"Yeah. We'll grow together!" I smiled. "Sakura, Hope, would want me to grow."
The mood turned a little dark.
"I'll get my life working again. I'll get my family working." I promised. "I'll do it for you, for us, Sakura." I whispered in Japanese.
"Whatever you said, I'll help you." Eli said.
This dude. He had no idea how grateful I was.
