When we returned to our room we took turns showering. I was done first and sat on the chair by the window, staring out into the ocean as the sun started to set.
Our hotel was one of the tallest on the seashore, with about fourteen floors. The last one was a terrace I think...that gave me an idea.
I hurried over to my bag and searched for my sketchbook and a pen. I could draw a sketch of the ocean and a sketch of the city! This was a great idea.
Faith came out of the shower in comfortable clothes and flopped down on the bed face-first.
"I am exhausted." He proclaimed.
"I wonder why." I sighed dramatically.
Truth be told, he did look really tired. I laid down behind him and put my arm around him. I never wanted to even lose sight of him. I held onto him like there was no tomorrow.
I felt Faith's hand link in mine. Today was eventful, for sure. I'm positive all Faith wanted to do was fall asleep and I didn't want to keep him up.
"Hey, I'm going to go sketch the city before it gets too dark." I whispered.
"Alright." He said. "I'm sleeping."
I tucked his hair behind his ear and got up to leave. I put on a hoodie just in case it got chilly and headed to the rooftop.
I used the elevator and walked out. The roof was neat but I could tell it wasn't really open to many visitors.
A sign read that it was going to be renovated in a few days so this was the last time anyone could come upstairs.
I walked around and enjoyed the view, looking for a place to sit and sketch.
I heard something clatter to my right. I looked and someone had thrown a phone...someone was standing on the edge of the roof, hands on the railing.
"Hey!" I called. "What are you doing?"
The person looked pretty androgynous, with flaming red hair, tanned skin and green eyes. They had a feminene top and masculine pants.
I really couldn't tell if they were a girl or boy or neither.
They had pure fear in their eyes. I walked over to the phone and handed it to them.
"Is it yours?" I asked.
They nodded and I handed it to them.
"T-thank you." They said.
"Are you ok?" I asked.
They looked down for a second but didn't reply.
"Hey, it's going to be alright." I told them.
I saw a tear roll down their cheek.
"What's your name?" I asked them.
They wiped a tear from their eye. "You can call me Cam."
I nodded. "I'm Eli, nice to meet you."
I didn't really know what to do next so I just sat next to them and started sketching the city.
They sat down and looked over my shoulder and stared.
"Mind if I ask for your pronouns?" They asked.
"Sure." I said. "It's he/him."
They relaxed a little. "Right now mine are she/they."
I nodded. "Got it."
It was a sort of awkward silence, but it was alright. I sketched the city in about half an hour but it was getting hard to see at that time.
"I'm going to head back." I said. "You have somewhere to go?"
She nodded. "Yeah, I've got a place."
They walked down the stairs and left. I followed shortly after and went to the room. I hope they will be ok.
When I came inside the lights were still on and Faith was fast asleep. I quietly set my sketchbook on the desk, changed and went to bed next to him. I wonder what we could do tomorrow...
we could go to town or maybe go to the...
I felt my eyes dropping down and let myself sleep.
Eli and I were walking along the streets of the town next to the beach, and it was a fun experience! I stopped at almost every shop to look inside and Eli came right with me.
It was about two in the afternoon and we were getting a little hungry so we stopped to get some food at a seafood restaurant.
Two other people sat down on the table next to us, and they looked sort of familiar.
"So what do you want to eat?" Eli asked.
One of them turned to us and I recognised her immediately! "Hey aren't you the girl who helped me?" I asked.
"Yeah! You're those guys who got lost!" She said.
She was wearing white shorts and pink flannel today with a white beret, as well as glasses. She also had a friend with her, with deep red hair and they radiated 'go away' energy.
"By the way," she started. "I'm Aurora."
"That's a nice name! I'm Faith." I said.
I looked over at Eli and saw that he was glancing at the red haired person like they were about to eat him alive or something.
"That's Cam." She nodded across the table. "He's a guy right now by the way."
"I don't know whether to hurl you into the sky or thank you." Cam said to her.
"Yeah okay." Aurora rolled her eyes. "Pretty sure it's thank me."
A hint of a smile formed at the corner of Cam's mouth but it disappeared as soon as it was there.
I smiled awkwardly.
"Also, thank you for yesterday." Cam turned to Eli.
"Uh, you're welcome." Eli said sheepishly.
"So are you guys new here or?" Aurora asked us.
"Just here for a few days." Eli shrugged, and I nodded.
We talked there for a while while our lunch was served, and they were pretty fun! I enjoyed their company.
"Do you guys have any plans for dinner?" Aurora asked.
Eli shook his head.
"Nope," I shook my head.
"Oh then maybe you guys can come over to our barbecue tonight. It's going to be really clear today so you a lot of stars will show." Aurora proposed.
I shrugged. "Why not?"
"Yeah that sounds fun!" Eli said.
We agreed to meet later that evening at Cam's place and left the restaurant after eating.
"Tonight should be interesting." I said, bumping into Eli as we walked back together to our hotel.
It was already starting to get dark by the time we reached their house.
I was wearing the same white hoodie I wore yesterday evening and a pair of jeans, and Faith wore a purple sweatshirt with black shorts.
"I guess we ring the doorbell?" I reached out but Aurora opened the door before I could.
I jumped back in surprise. "Oh my gosh."
Faith laughed at me and elbowed me on the way in.
Cam's house gave me very cottagecore vibes. It was right next to the beach, like there was about fifty meters of only sand till the actual water, as far as I could see from the window.
I walked out onto the backyard, which was more like a backyard with steps going down to the sand.
Something barked nearby and I looked around nervously.
A huge golden labrador popped out from behind the door. The dog looked beautiful and playfully bumped into me.
"Zeus likes you!" Aurora laughed.
I assumed Zeus was the dog's name. He was very friendly at least.
"We'll have to keep him in." Cam said, standing at the threshold of the door. "Hey boy, come here!" They knelt down and Zeus ran to them.
I walked downstairs to the barbecue area and watched Faith help Aurora set the meat. Or more accurately, set the meat on fire.
"Let me help." I said. I couldn't take them messing up things any longer.
Soon enough we were enjoying food under the moonlight and chatting, actually having fun. The beach looked so pretty, but in my eyes it wasn't prettier than Faith.
He was laughing and enjoying himself. I smiled sadly to myself. His sister would have loved to see him like this, maybe even be here herself.
Time flew by and I barely realised it struck midnight. Aurora and Cam noticed about when I did as well.
"I think we should probably head back." Faith said.
"Yeah, I agree." I said.
We parted ways and decided to just walk back from the beach. We stopped a little after we were out of sight of Aurora and Cam and decided to watch the stars for a while.
I tilted my head back and enjoyed the moonlight hitting my face. It was never like this in the city. It felt magical.
"The sky looks so pretty tonight, right?" He said quietly.
"Yeah." I agreed.
It made my mind dizzy thinking of all the stars. I looked at Faith and caught him looking back at me.
We hadn't kissed since the day we realised we both liked each other. The right moment never came. But right now. It did feel perfect.
I leaned in closer and so did he, and we made contact.
I missed kissing him.
I held his face in my hands so grateful and happy that he was with me. Happy that he was mine.
We stayed like that for a minute before starting to walk again, holding hands, talking about ever so much, never getting tired of each other.
