He never played with me. He never taught me anything.

The Dad Who Wasn't There

He never played with me.

He never taught me anything.

He just did his own thing.

I talk to him once a year.

When I call him.

He doesn't see his grand kids.

He wouldn't help me with school.

He doesn't send me presents. Ever.

Not even on Christmas or birthdays.

Sometimes I forget,

that even though I have a dad.

I don't really have one.

Then I wonder what it would be like.

To have a father who cared.

Who comforted. Who helped.
