Do you know how terrifying it is to hear voices that nobody else hears? How draining it is to fight the voices in your head every second you’re awake?
That fight had been Amber’s life for a really long time. She’d begun to hear them as a child but lately they were getting so much louder.
It could be silently whispering her name as she was falling asleep, talking to her throughout the day or screaming at the middle of the night when the only thing anyone else could hear was the rain against the window.
Amber had never told anyone about the voices. They’d think she’s crazy and it’s still better to be judged by someone inside your head than someone outside it.
I doubt it’s even possible to completely get used to hearing voices but at least she had learned how to live with them.
Then one day something happened that had never happened before. It took over her body.
Suddenly she couldn’t control her speech or movements and was made the spectator of her own life. She was watching with her own eyes but the actions she was seeing were not her's.
This went on for the whole day and she couldn’t do anything about it. The body seemed a little distracted every time she tried to scream for help but nothing came out of her mouth.
At the night when she was left completely alone in her room she heard the body finally speak specifically to her.
“I know how you’re feeling right now. It’s terrifying to see someone else take control of your life and make the decisions you should be making yourself.
You know those voices you’ve been hearing? That was me. I’ve been here for a while. For as long as you can remember, anyway.
I can almost hear you wondering who am I, even though deep down you already know. I’m you. The real you.
I’m the mind that existed before you took over this body, before you forgot about being a parasite.
I’m the child that was in the wrong place at the wrong time but I’m not so little anymore.
I’m the ghost of the person who used to own this body and now I’m going to take it back.”
