Mountaineers are always free
But how can that really be?

Mountaineers Are Always Free

"Montani Semper Liberi" Mountaineers Are Always Free By: Mike Mezz

I feel the distant mountains calling to me But they are disappearing into thin air I still won't stop fighting for what I believe It's sad that our leaders don't care

I'm from West By God Virginia Where the mountains are no longer free They feed us lies and propaganda That big coal is just a necessity

It's just profit to those who destroy The people it affects are just casualties They are willing to sacrifice their employees It's money over people that they enjoy

I'm from West By God Virginia Where big coal rules the roost They feed us lies and propaganda The state continues to hide the truth

Mountaineers are always free The motto of our state But how can that really be? When big coal controls our fate?

I'm from West By God Virginia Where coal slurry dams break I'm from West By God Virginia Where our lives and families are at stake

Miners trapped underground left there to die Safety regulations are always ignored Rich coal barons pay the small fine Huge profits for The Chairman of the Board

Mountaineers are not really free They are beholden to the coal company Rich politicians just look the other way While our miners and citizens are sick and in pain

I'm from West By God Virginia A place where coal companies write the laws I'm from West By God Virginia Where the tops of mountains are blasted off

"Montani Semper Liberi" Mountaineers Are Always Free

May they Rest In Peace
